I’m A Celeb fans become ’emotional wrecks’ as they watch Oti Mabuse cry in camp while discussing the premature birth of her daughter
As a compassionate and empathetic observer, I find myself deeply moved by Oti Mabuse’s heartrending journey as a mother. Her experiences with pre-diabetes, gestational diabetes, sepsis, and the premature birth of her daughter paint a vivid picture of resilience, courage, and an unwavering love for her child.
Viewers of “I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!” were moved by Tuesday’s broadcast, as they listened to Oti Mabuse recount her experience with a premature birth, alongside Reverend Richard Coles.
34-year-old dance specialist shared insights about the arrival of her baby girl in November 2023, an event she had earlier disclosed led to complications such as sepsis and diabetes for her.
While conversing with Richard, Oti shared that her newborn was put in an incubator right after delivery. Since she wasn’t able to physically hold her, she instead bonded with her baby by using her voice.
She mentioned that they derive solace from your voice. For a span of two months, each day was filled with us singing hymns from church.
After the heartfelt incident, people expressed their affection for Oti and her newborn daughter on social media platform X. One user wrote: ‘How sweet! My best wishes to you, Oti, and your adorable little girl.’
As I immerse myself in Oti’s melodies, a torrent of cherished recollections floods my mind. It’s almost unbearable to think about leaving a newborn behind at the hospital while I have to return home – it’s a pain that pierces my heart.
I’m deeply affected after hearing Oti share her experiences with her premature infant.
Oti shares that the toughest aspect of caring for a premature infant is saying goodnight to them each evening, an experience that left her feeling utterly devastated as well.
Richard recounted his personal experience by stating: “Once, I went to perform a baptism on a newborn who was extremely premature. He was barely alive at birth…
Overwhelmed by the memory, Richard found it hard to continue speaking and held back tears, while Oti approached to offer a comforting hug.
He continued: “I recall him as a minuscule, vibrant spark of life. At that time, David took a pipette full of water, and we consecrated it, performing a baptism on him. Miraculously, he lived and is now a thriving young athlete in football – wonderful news! Yet, I couldn’t help but feel so… it was an incredibly precious moment.
Oti concurred, expressing that “My child was incredibly small at birth, which made things unbearably difficult. The experience of being in the hospital was agonizing – the sounds, not seeing my baby’s eyes for a week, and relying on doctors’ advice constantly were all torturous.
Struggling hard to hold back tears, Oti opened up about what she considered as the most difficult aspect of her life – the fact that every evening, she must entrust her little one to another person’s care.
Instead of asking for a prayer, Oti said something like: “I hope you get a chance to meet her soon. It would be wonderful if you could bless her with your presence.
Richard confessed: “I’ve already offered a prayer for her, truth be told.” With tears streaming down her face, she gratefully acknowledged Richard and returned his embrace.
Additionally, Richard shared feelings about the departure of his ex-partner, David. To Oti, he admitted, “I feel his absence… He’s created an enormous void in my existence, and I’m navigating my days around this gap.
In November 2023, Oti and her partner Marius Lepure, aged 41, welcomed a new addition to their family. Their baby was born early and contracted an infection, requiring extensive care in the intensive care unit for six weeks.
At 28 weeks pregnant, she was found to have gestational diabetes, a condition that precedes full-blown diabetes. Postpartum, she encountered difficulties due to sepsis, a severe infection that set in following the delivery.
Gestational diabetes is when you have high blood sugar during pregnancy, whereas pre-diabetes is when blood sugar levels above the normal range, but not high enough to be diagnosed.
In a previous conversation on Loose Women, she mentioned that when she became pregnant, she developed gestational diabetes. Since diabetes runs in her family, she wasn’t fully aware of what would happen post-delivery.
As a lifestyle advisor, I often get asked about the return-to-work timeline for new mothers in the fashion industry. While it may seem that models bounce back quickly after giving birth, sporting the runway just three weeks postpartum, this is not always the case. The truth is, every woman’s body recovers at its own pace, and it’s essential to prioritize rest and healing during those crucial early months. So, if you’re a new mother, remember that your health and bonding time with your baby are of utmost importance, and there’s no need to rush back to work. Instead, focus on nurturing yourself and your little one, and when the time is right, you can re-enter the world of fashion with renewed vigor.
In the sanctuary of my bathroom, tears stream down my face, for it seems like I’ve neglected my personal hygiene for almost a week now. The question lingers, how on earth can I regain my composure?
We often find ourselves discussing how challenging it can be, and the crux of it is maintaining good health.
I discovered a startling revelation about my health – I’m on the brink of diabetes! This wake-up call ignited my passion for fitness once more.
As a follower expressing surprise, I mimicked Charlene White’s reaction with “Really?” In response, Oti explained her situation: “Yeah, I’m still pre-diabetic. It’s all about working towards a point where I feel strong again, managing my diet effectively, and ensuring that my sugar levels are balanced.
Oti delivered her baby naturally, humming “Chicago” throughout the process, but later encountered complications.
She shared that the experience of giving birth turned out to be much more challenging for her due to complications she didn’t anticipate. She developed sepsis and was unaware of it at first. Additionally, she had diabetes and pelvic pain, which made moving, such as getting up and walking, a very uncomfortable process for her.
After discovering that I was suffering from sepsis, it became a matter of urgency. Within just ten minutes of speaking with her, my wife and the medical team whisked her away.
For the very first occasion, she was tucked away inside an incubator. It was then that we managed to lay our eyes on her for the first time. She was swaddled up, surrounded by a variety of medical equipment, including numerous machines, wires, and even some concealing her face.
‘You can only truly understand this challenging phase of life as you’re experiencing it… It was an incredibly frightening period.’
