If You Thought Epic Universe Was Crowded Already, You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet

Epic Universe has quickly become a major success. This new theme park expands Universal Orlando Resort to three parks and features some of the most cutting-edge rides and attractions globally. However, its popularity also means it’s crowded, and those crowds are expected to increase slightly in the coming months.

During Comcast’s Q3 2025 earnings call, company president and future Co-CEO Mike Cavenaugh announced a 19% revenue increase for Universal’s theme park division. This growth is largely due to Epic Universe, which operated for a full quarter after its May opening. Cavenaugh anticipates continued revenue growth as they plan to increase attendance at Epic Universe, which has been intentionally limited since opening. He indicated they will be increasing capacity in the coming months.

We’ve been carefully preparing to ensure a great experience for everyone. We anticipate a significant increase in participation and improved financial performance over the next year and beyond.

Cavanaugh explained that the advanced technology used in Epic Universe is a key factor in why they’re taking a cautious approach with the park’s opening. Two of its main attractions, Monsters Unchained: the Frankenstein Experiment and Harry Potter and the Battle of the Ministry, have been experiencing some initial technical issues. While both rides are operational more often than not, they’ve needed more frequent downtime than other attractions. This is a shame, as I believe Battle at the Ministry is the best ride in Epic Universe, although opinions vary.

It seems Epic Universe hasn’t been fully prepared to accommodate large crowds yet, so they’ve been limiting attendance to a manageable level. They plan to gradually increase the number of visitors as the park improves and is better able to handle them.

It’s actually positive that Universal has been carefully controlling how many people enter the park. If they’d allowed unlimited access without being prepared, guests would have likely had a poor experience, and those first impressions are crucial for the park’s reputation.

Increasing the park’s capacity is positive for investors, as it should lead to higher profits. However, visitors might find the park more crowded. The good news is, if the expansion is well-managed, the park could accommodate more people without feeling overly busy, even with the increased numbers.
