Without a doubt, Disney World’s Magic Kingdom holds the crown for being the most frequented theme park globally, a position it has maintained for many years. However, though it’s an essential stop for any theme park enthusiast, it often doesn’t rank high on lists comparing the top theme parks worldwide or even the best Disney-themed parks in the world.
The second entry point of Tokyo Disney Resort, Tokyo DisneySea, sits at the pinnacle of my dream list of theme parks worldwide. It’s often praised as one of the finest, if not the best, theme parks on Earth. Its exceptional reputation is widely recognized, as evidenced by a viral Instagram post highlighting that wait times for attractions in Tokyo DisneySea are notably longer compared to domestic parks.

The reel from Inside the Mouse shows all the major attractions at Tokyo DisneySea, with nothing running under 100 minutes, and Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey running an absolutely brutal 180 minutes. The ride is part of the newest addition to Tokyo DisneySea, Fantasy Springs, which explains the long wait, but doesn’t make it any more palatable.
At Tokyo, you’ll find unique experiences such as the Frozen ride and Rapunzel’s Lantern Festival, which aren’t offered anywhere else. However, other attractions like Toy Story Midway Mania can be enjoyed at Disneyland or Walt Disney World. For instance, this specific ride is present in DisneySea Tokyo, Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, and Disney California Adventure in Anaheim. As we speak, the wait time for the attraction is 90 minutes in Florida and 45 minutes in California, which are substantial delays, but much shorter compared to waiting times in Japan.
Different versions of attractions such as Soarin’ and Tower of Terror can be found across various Disney Parks worldwide, offering similar thrilling experiences. At present, the wait time for Soarin’ in Japan is an impressive 160 minutes, compared to just 40 minutes in California and 35 minutes in Florida. Interestingly, the Florida Tower of Terror, which bears a strong resemblance to its Japanese counterpart, currently has a wait time of only 40 minutes.
At Walt Disney World and Disneyland, long wait times of two hours or more aren’t unusual, but what we’re currently experiencing at Tokyo DisneySea is extraordinary. In fact, I can’t recall a time when every attraction had such long lines simultaneously. This overwhelming popularity is evident, suggesting that it takes a massive crowd to fill up all those attractions with such extended waits.
Unlike other Disney resorts, Tokyo Disney Resort tends to have the most impressive attractions due to the fact that it receives special treatment from Walt Disney Imagineering. This is because the resort is managed by The Oriental Land Company, not Disney itself. As a result, the company’s resources and focus aren’t divided among various entertainment projects.
Reframing my thoughts, I realize that long waits at places like Tokyo DisneySea, which I usually try to avoid, might not be so terrible after all. On a future visit, I may need to budget more time for the Tokyo Disney Resort to fully enjoy its attractions and accept any queues that come along with it. This adjustment in my plan isn’t necessarily a downside.
