Warning: SPOILERS for KPop Demon Hunters are in play.
2025 movies with high popularity on Netflix’s Top 10 lists have included some notable titles. Upon their release, Tyler Perry’s “Madea’s Destination Wedding” and Adam Sandler’s much-anticipated “Happy Gilmore 2” quickly climbed to the top of the charts. However, Netflix’s record-breaking series “KPop Demon Hunters” eventually reclaimed its position as the most-watched show.
Following news that Sony Pictures Animation and a streaming studio are considering a stage show and sequels, this brings excitement to Huntr/x fans globally. With captivating deleted scenes from the KPop world, there’s already story elements fans eagerly anticipate could be incorporated. Among these, I believe one stands out as particularly significant, and it’s not about Rumi and Jinu’s visit to the aquarium.

KPop Demon Hunters’ Sequels Need To Address Celine’s Role In Rumi’s Life
Due to a recent report by The Wrap, excitement for sequels among fans of KPop Demon Hunters has reached its peak. This anticipation includes not just one but two sequel films! One potential film could delve into the complicated relationship between Rumi (Arden Cho) and her aunt Celine (Yunjin Kim). This is intriguing, given that leaked scenes and online revelations suggest that Celine was responsible for the death of her own sister.

Yes, Celine Killed Rumi’s Mother (With Caveats)
There isn’t much information available about who and how Rumi’s parents passed away, but it is known that they died during Rumi’s younger years. In their absence, Rumi’s mother’s sister Celine – a fellow demon hunter or member of The Sunshine Sisters – took on the responsibility of caring for her.
Nevertheless, visual development artist Simon Baek revealed some unused designs from the project on his Instagram account. One standout piece, displayed hereafter, offers a glimpse into aspects that even Netflix subscribers hadn’t seen:

In one of Celine’s slides, her “guilt” seems reminiscent of the omitted flashback where it appears she (presumably) murdered Rumi’s parents. As we delve further into the following content from an allegedly deleted post by Mr. Baek, which a fan successfully saved:
(or more informally):
The guilt hinted at in Celine’s slide reminds me of the missing scene where it seems she (presumably) killed Rumi’s parents. The story becomes even more intriguing with the details from this supposedly deleted post by Mr. Baek, which a fan was able to preserve:
In the event of its vanishing, I found a scene in “KPop Demon Hunters” where Rumi directly questioned Celine about her intentions towards Rumi’s mother. This remark was made by Simon Baek as well:
(Paraphrased)
In case it gets lost, there was a moment in KPop Demon Hunters when Rumi confronted Celine about her actions against her mom. This observation was shared by Simon Baek too.
In a potential future narrative, Celine might be portrayed as unintentionally causing harm rather than being intentionally malicious, similar to Rumi’s father in an unfolding storyline, without revealing the specific circumstances surrounding her actions. However, whether this story continues remains uncertain.
The dynamic between Rumi and Celine warrants further examination in potential future installments of KPop series, given the mysterious circumstances surrounding their relationship, including the “unintended” demise. However, producing films like this requires patience, so don’t expect KPop Demon Hunters 2: Jinu’s Return to arrive anytime soon. Interestingly, Netflix and Sony are mulling over another narrative platform that could, at minimum, provide additional insights into this storyline.

KPop Demon Hunters’ Early Sequel Talks Have Already Opened A Door To Making This Happen
According to the report mentioned earlier that highlights a promising future for KPop Demon Hunters, there’s a project with significant potential to address certain gaps. From the outset, co-writers/directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans have shared ambitious plans, leaving many aspects of this potential franchise yet to be explored. This final update about KPop’s future is particularly thrilling because of the unexplored possibilities it suggests.
Just as I find myself enchanted by “Frozen,” I’ve come across talk about a brief movie that would function as a transitional piece, connecting the full-length stories – much like a charming interlude.
Given that Celine and Rumi’s relationship has been pre-scripted and storyboarded, KPop Demon Hunters now presents an initial opportunity to test the shorts format. However, it’s all still uncertain at this point. If you’re keen on seeing a sequel come to fruition, continue supporting the original series – exclusively available on Netflix.
