As a dedicated follower of showbiz and a proud theater enthusiast, I can’t help but feel a deep sense of nostalgia when I see Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth grace the red carpet together once more. Their collaboration in Wicked back in 2003 was nothing short of magical, and it’s heartening to see their enduring friendship.

Idina Menzel headed to the Wicked premiere with her 15-year-old son Walker over the weekend.

The actress, aged 53, who first played Elphaba on Broadway, gracefully stood alongside her teenage child at the red carpet event.

Walker, whom Idina shares with ex-husband Taye Diggs, was nearly as tall as his mother

The teen was looking smart in a crisp black suit paired with platform star print sneakers.

As a devoted admirer, let me share my awe: I’d don the very words to describe Idina’s captivating ensemble. She gracefully adorned a sleek, off-shoulder black gown that hugged her as if tailored just for her. To complete the look, she carried an exquisite black clutch and styled her tresses into a cascade of glossy waves, truly embodying elegance personified.

Idina was also joined on the red carpet by her former Wicked co-star Kristin Chenoweth.

In the year 2003, I had the privilege of bringing to life two iconic characters – Elphaba Thropp, the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda the Good Witch of the North – in a spectacular Broadway production. It was an unforgettable experience, one that I still cherish.

The 2003 Broadway musical Wicked, inspired by the novel of the same name by Gregory Maguire, provides a prequel to the story of the Wicked Witch of the West as seen in The Wizard of Oz.

The film stars Cynthia Erivo as the title character and Ariana Grande as her best friend Galinda, who later becomes Glinda The Good Witch Of The North.

The first part of the Wicked movie will hit theaters on November 22, 2024, followed by the second part on November 26, 2025.

Idina, meanwhile, was married to Walker’s father Taye from 2003 to 2013.

In 1995, the pair developed feelings for each other while playing the characters Maureen Johnson and Benjamin ‘Benny’ Coffin III in the Broadway production of Rent. They then repeated these roles when the musical was turned into a movie in 2005.

Menzel and Diggs began dating at some point between 1995 and 1998.

They eventually wed in December 2003 during an intimate ceremony in Jamaica.

Six years later, Menzel gave birth to the couple’s first and only child, their son Walker.

In 2013, they chose to share the news of their separation through a statement to PEOPLE, saying: “Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs have mutually decided to part ways for now.

‘They prioritize their son above all else, so please understand if they prefer privacy at the moment. Thank you.’

Diggs filed the papers in 2014 and the divorce was finalized a year later.

They maintain a highly friendly coparenting arrangement, and Menzel later got married again. In 2017, she exchanged vows with actor/singer Aaron Lohr, who is 48 years old.
