Iconic soap star, 81, who married onscreen love interest makes rare outing… can you guess who?

An iconic soap star was spotted running errands during a rare outing in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

This actress, 81, has an illustrious career that began in 1953 and continues to this day.

She’s been part of the iconic series Days of Our Lives since 1968, and over the years, she’s also made appearances on other soap operas such as The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful.

As fate would have it, her career also brought her to her husband.

She encountered her partner on the set of “Days of our Lives,” and in the show, their characters got married. In reality, they stayed together from that time until his passing last year, at the age of 98.

Can you guess who this Hollywood legend is?

It’s Susan Seaforth Hayes!

Susan was seen out shopping, sporting a stylish black and blue outfit complete with coordinating accessories.

On Wednesday, she was seen socializing with a companion in Los Angeles, looking happy while attending to some business together.

Prior to her rise as a soap opera actress, Susan had roles in several iconic shows such as Dragnet (1967), The Wild Wild West, Bonanza, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Perry Mason, and Lassie.

This well-known television personality has portrayed Julie Williams on the soap opera “Days of our Lives” continuously since 1968, appearing in a total of 3020 episodes, as per her IMDb profile.

From 1984 to 2010, she portrayed the character JoAnna Manning on The Young and the Restless, and later appeared on another popular soap opera, The Bold and the Beautiful, playing the same role of JoAnna.

She received multiple Daytime Emmy Award nominations for her role in Days of Our Lives, and in 2018, she and her spouse received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the organization as a shared honor.

In the year 2020, she received a nomination for a Daytime Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, which is her most recent achievement.

Her job brought her into contact with Bill Hayes, who was not only her on-screen partner from Days of our Lives but also the man she later married in real life as well.

On the show, Bill took on the role of Doug Williams, a former swindler who transformed into a lounge singer, while Susan’s character was the spirited Julie Olson, a troublemaker. In the series, their fictional characters got married.

In real life, Bill and Susan wed in 1974.

They remained together until his death last year at age 98.

The same day as her errand run, Susan was also busy keeping her husband’s memory alive.

She gave away her husband’s archive of scripts from the 1950s edition of the musical comedy series “Your Show of Shows,” where he used to perform, to the Writers Guild Foundation.

In an unexpected twist that brought a smile to my face instead of tears, a dreaded farewell morphed into a heartwarming reunion for me today. Sharing this moment with you all on Instagram, here’s a snap of me and the scripts we’ve shared so many stories with!

This morning, I donated my husband’s collection of “Your Show of Shows” bound scripts to the Writer’s Guild Foundation.

In the 1950s, my Billy served as the romantic tenor on the popular show, prior to his first appearance on Broadway. Later, he acquired the collection of bound scripts from the descendants of Max Liebman, the legendary variety show’s creator.

You’re welcome to visit the generous library within the foundation in Hollywood, which houses script collections from some of America’s finest movies and television programs. Here, you can view, peruse, and appreciate these works at your leisure.

‘Hilary Swett, the archivist there, is charming, helpful, and enthusiastic.

Instead, “I deposited my beloved’s cherished recollections at an institution dedicated to eternalizing and celebrating exceptional literary work in entertainment.

‘I believe Billy is as happy as I am now ❤️.

‘The writers guild foundation, visit sometime. Say I sent you.’

On their Instagram account, the Writers Guild of America announced that the compilation contained scripts penned by producer Max Liebman, with a total of 160 scripts originating from Your Show of Shows.

In one of his final performances, the actor, who was known for being in more than 2000 episodes of the series, acted alongside his wife. This touching scene was broadcasted approximately half a year following his passing the previous year.

In a final appearance on fans’ televisions, the characters Doug and Julie Williams (played by him and Susan) reminisced about their romantic journey.

Following the revelation that their daughter Abigail could potentially be alive, Julie looks at her partner and expresses, “Chad and Abby didn’t get many moments together, but you and I have had a lifetime. Haven’t I ever shared with you just how deeply I cherish you?

The moment I first laid eyes on you, I felt utterly captivated. Despite the hurdles and miscommunications we encountered along the way, it was worth every effort when I finally won your heart. It seemed as if all of your songs were written for me, and those passionate kisses were reserved exclusively for me.

) When I first saw you, I was spellbound. Navigating through the trials and tribulations we faced together, it was a testament to our bond. But when I finally won your heart, it was all worth it. It felt like each of your songs were meant for me, and those passionate kisses were mine alone.

Doug proceeds to look back on how he became a ‘new man’ to be worthy and deserving of Julie’s love.

Julie responded, “Wow, you really brought out the best in me, and we’ve made a great team – I’d say we’re excellent partners.” She continued, “You know, for someone who grew up in an orphanage, you’ve proven to be quite the family man. You never let any of us down, not once.

She continues to compliment him, acknowledging his efforts in revealing ‘the entire globe’ and ‘all the continents’ to her. Later, she reflects fondly on their ‘small journeys’ together.

Julie was astonished by the fact that, having witnessed ‘the earth’s stunning splendor’ side by side, their love had proven to be timeless.

Doug goes on to deliver his last line, ‘Now you better give me another kiss.’

‘My pleasure,’ Julie responds, before giving him a smooch.

After his passing, Susan shared a heartfelt tribute to her late husband on Instagram.

In her letter from January 2024, she expressed gratitude to everyone who remembered Billy with a tribute, a sense of personal sorrow, or even a tear. They moved her heart by recognizing the goodness and joy that Billy brought into her life during their beautiful marriage. May we all strive to live with the zest of Bill Hayes, enriching our lives with kindness and love.
