Iconic Neighbours star’s Adelaide home fails to sell at weekend auction despite drawing massive crowds
As an ardent fan of Peter O’Brien, I can hardly contain my emotions as I read about his decision to part ways with the cherished home that holds decades of his family’s memories and his own university days. The thought of this quaint Glenelg pad, nestled just 11kms from the CBD and boasting a California bungalow charm, brings back nostalgic images of O’Brien’s character, Shane Ramsay, who became a household name in the 80s on Neighbours.
Last weekend, the home of the previous Neighbours actor Peter O’Brien did not sell at the scheduled auction.
No price was listed for the cosy dwelling, which O’Brien’s late parents purchased in the 1960’s.
On Sunday, a significant number of people showed up for the auction, according to The Advertiser’s report. Specifically, it was stated that 40 individuals participated in the auction. However, out of the four registered bidders who were eager to bid, only two of them put forward an offer for the fixer-upper property.
Nevertheless, as reported by sales agents, the 64-year-old actor has successfully secured a purchaser for his humble four-bedroom, two-bathroom property in Glenelg.
Real estate sales agents have estimated the value of the seaside property to be $650,200.
Last week, O’Brien shared with the Advertiser that his parents initially purchased the charming vacation home primarily for relaxation purposes.
In my experience as a lifestyle advisor, I found myself managing two semi-detached properties initially. We decided to split our living between them and lease out the remaining one. Over time, we gained full ownership of both properties.
The Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries actor also admitted that parting with the home will be difficult.

O’Brien said that the cottage holds many happy memories of his university days and school years.
He mentioned, “I find it quite difficult to part with it right now, as I’m unsure about how the process will unfold.
11 kilometers away from downtown and boasting a Californian-style design just 100 meters from the shoreline, this delightful residence showcases a sunroom facing the street, a generously sized kitchen, and a substantial backyard.
Additionally, it features an authentic fireplace and preserves numerous traditional fixtures such as frosty glass cabinets and ornate wooden details.
Other highlights include a private living room, a separate ‘family’ room and rear verandah.

O’Brien rose to fame in the 1980s as one of the original cast members of Neighbours.
In my role as a lifestyle expert, I can confidently say that through my work on the show, Shane Ramsay has become synonymous with success. His impact resonates not just within our local Australian community, but also across international borders.
Following his exit from “Neighbours” in 1987, Peter embarked on a flourishing acting journey, landing significant roles in popular series like “The Flying Doctors,” “Queer as Folk,” and “Underbelly: The Golden Mile.
2003 marked the year when he got married to the renowned actress from “Lord of the Rings,” Miranda Otto (aged 56 at that time). Together, they have a 19-year-old daughter named Darcey.
