Iconic indie band return with first album in seven years – almost two decades after scoring a UK number one with legendary debut single
After nearly two decades, the indie group The Ting Tings is back on the music scene with a brand-new album, following their success of achieving the UK’s top spot with their first single.
On June 6, the duo consisting of Katie White and Jules De Martino published their fifth album titled “Home,” following their announcement of their musical comeback on various social platforms.
Instead of being recognized for their lively indie pop style, this duo has opted to switch things up and create an album inspired by the 1970s, drawing influence from acts such as Fleetwood Mac, Joni Mitchell, and The Eagles.
Focusing on motifs of regret and understanding, this album marks their initial release since their fourth, The Black Light, which came out in 2018 and received mixed feedback. Unfortunately, it didn’t make a mark on the charts in any country where it was distributed.
The long-time duo, White and De Martino, admitted that they found inspiration for their latest tunes following the arrival of a new family member amidst the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
For several years, De Martino and White, who were frequently traveling between the UK, Los Angeles, and Berlin during their album cycles, have made Ibiza their permanent residence. This information is detailed in a recent press release.

During the pandemic, they welcomed a new daughter into their lives. To find comfort, they turned to the familiar tunes from their childhoods that served as solid musical pillars.
In their own studio, the band, who had always composed and recorded their music independently, pondered a straightforward query.
Amidst this deeply uncertain era, what brought comfort and joy? Those melodies have been compiled in our latest album, titled ‘Home’.
The first single from the album titled “Good People Do Bad Things” was launched on February 28, and on April 25, a track influenced by Stevie Nicks named “Dreaming” was released.
Before releasing the new track, The Ting Tings, who have been away for a while, shared a sneak peek on Instagram, saying: “Hello again, we’re The Ting Tings!
Hailing from Salford, Greater Manchester, the band known as The Ting Tings achieved tremendous success after their first hit single, “That’s Not My Name,” was released in 2007.
The tune, paired as a double-sided single with Great DJ, peaked at the top of the UK Singles Chart and reached an impressive 39th position on the US Billboard chart.
The first album, “We Started Nothing,” significantly increased the band’s visibility following its doubling of platinum status in the UK, where it was purchased over 639,000 times. This album also echoed the chart success of its lead single by reaching the top position.

Nevertheless, their second album, Sounds from Nowheresville, didn’t have the same resonance after it was launched in 2012 as compared to its initial release.
With its ascent to position 23 on the UK album chart, this latest release signaled a gradual drop in the band’s market success, a trend that persisted through their subsequent album, Super Critical.
Two years following “Sounds from Nowheresville,” the album struggled to leave a mark in the UK, peaking at position 111 on their charts.
In an interview with Renowned For Sound in 2014, the band member White stated that each album they produce is unique, varying in direction and style compared to their previous work, due to their wide array of musical inspirations.
As a group, we’ve discovered our unique character through adaptation. Today’s diverse music landscape allows us the freedom to evolve, rather than being confined to one specific genre indefinitely.
Fashion trends intermingle, while music genres are delved into. It’s common to find punks appreciating soul tunes, rockers grooving to hip-hop beats, and so on.
She stated: “So long as there’s music, we can adapt accordingly. Notably distinct from each other are funk and disco.
