Iconic EastEnders star QUITS the BBC soap and will exit in ‘very impactful and dramatic’ scenes
As a dedicated follower of EastEnders and a lover of captivating soap opera drama, I must admit that I am saddened by Navin Chowdhry’s departure from the show. With his portrayal of the complex and intriguing character Nish Panesar, he has truly left an indelible mark on the series.
Navin Chowdhry has quit EastEnders after just two years on the hit soap.
In an upcoming turn of events on the BBC show, it’s said that the actor, aged 53, who plays the character of evil Nish Panesar, will depart in a way that is both significant and thrilling.
Although the details about Nish’s departure are unclear, it has been revealed that he is suffering from a severe heart condition and urgently requires a transplant to survive.
According to a source who spoke to The Sun, it remains uncertain whether character Nish will be written out of the storyline, given his declining health. However, if he does depart, it’s promised to be a significant and emotional departure for viewers.
Navin has significantly contributed to the series over the past two years, leaving an indelible mark, particularly through his role in the massive Christmas plotline involving The Six. His absence will undoubtedly be felt by everyone associated with the production, including cast members, staff, and fans.
TopMob have contacted an EastEnders spokesperson for comment.
Navin joined EastEnders in September 2022 as the ex husband of Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal).
After getting out of prison, he continued to torment Suki, and speculation ran high that he would meet his end on Christmas Day, being among the potential characters set to be written off in the series’ intriguing plot twist.
In an unexpected turn of events, Denise Fox, played by Diane Parish, struck Nish over the head with a bottle, apparently defending Suki, his wife, from his alleged abuse. However, things weren’t exactly as they appeared.
Initially, it seemed that Nish had passed away, but then Keanu Taylor (played by Danny Walters) entered the Queen Victoria pub and, upon discovering Nish’s lifeless body, he erupted into a physical altercation with Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean). This fight ensued after their wedding was abruptly canceled when Keanu’s attempt to abduct her son Albie became public knowledge.
Even though it appeared that Nish was the one murdered, Keanu still attempted to choke Sharon when she threatened to incarcerate him for his attempt to kidnap Albie by revealing information about Nish’s supposed demise.
Surprisingly, Linda Carter (played by Kellie Bright) seized a knife and stabbed Keanu in self-defense, aiming to protect Sharon’s life. In the last scene of the episode, Suki appeared to resuscitate her husband, Nish, who had been abusive.
Since then, Nish has been trying to break up Suki and her girlfriend Eve, but has failed to do so.
He also recently attempted to frame Vinny for his own money laundering.
Before embarking on the BBC soap, Navin had gained significant recognition through his part in the Channel 4 drama series, Teachers, and the satirical detective show on Sky One, A Touch of Cloth.
He has also starred in army series Our Girl and Appletv+ comedy, Trying.
Ever since Navin confessed earlier this year about requesting producers to soften some scenes for his personal safety, I’ve found myself becoming more and more invested in his work. I can’t help but feel a sense of protective fervor towards him, always hoping that he remains safe on set.
In February father-of-two Navin wanted viewers to know he is nothing like his villainous character.
Navin shared with the Daily Star that there have been instances where he had to balance work and family commitments, saying something like, “I need to take my kids to school, but you’re asking me to brutally fight every woman on Albert Square.” He admitted feeling apprehensive about this situation.
As a die-hard enthusiast, I can’t help but acknowledge the turbid emotions stirred among our fandom, seemingly clouding the bond I share with the exceptional Nish. Navin here, owning up to the wave of dissent that seems to have arisen between us.
He mentioned that there have been a handful of not-so-friendly comments or messages, but generally, people understand what he is trying to convey.
Navid expressed that he is fully cognizant of the strong dislike people have for Nish, as well as the wish shared by some that it was Nish who met his end during the holiday season of Christmas.
‘I apologise to the audience that I’m still around,’ he added.
Regarding his acting role, Navid mentioned that portraying villainous characters is often the most entertaining for him. In his words, “I get a kick out of playing the bad guy.
Navid went on to say that actors often agree you have the ‘best fun’ when ‘doing the darkest stuff.
He added: ‘Sometimes when you go really dark, the flipside is you have a very fun experience on set.’
