Fans of classic British characters have a new film to look forward to! Following in the footsteps of Paddington, the beloved Mr. Benn is getting a live-action movie. Writer and director Kirk Jones, along with producer Jack Whitehall, are bringing the story to the big screen.
Jones’s latest work is the BAFTA-winning film I Swear, currently streaming on Netflix. He’s also known for directing the family favorite Nanny McPhee, demonstrating his skill in creating movies for all ages.
I absolutely loved Mr. Benn growing up! It all started with these wonderful books by David McKee, and then he turned it into this amazing ’70s BBC show. The coolest thing about it was that Mr. Benn was just a regular guy, but whenever he popped into this incredible costume shop, he’d have the most unbelievable adventures!
Okay, so I just heard some awesome news! They’re finally starting to cast actors for the live-action Mr. Benn movie later this year, which is so exciting. If everything goes according to plan, they’re aiming to start filming in early 2027. I’m already trying to guess who they’ll pick for Mr. Benn!

As a child, I loved Mr Benn, and I immediately knew it was important to share his adventures with a new audience through a live-action story. Mr Benn has a special way of traveling to different times and places – both the past and the future – where he uses kindness, understanding, and practicality to solve big problems, as Jones explained.

After the success of I Swear, I’m eager to create something funny and engaging. I want to make a project that cuts through all the noise and reminds people what truly matters. Hopefully, we can even have Mr. Benn save the world in the process!
The McKee family shared that the Mr. Benn film project meant a great deal to their father, who often spoke about wanting to see it made. They’re pleased to see the project finally gaining traction and coming to fruition after many years.
We’re very happy to welcome Kirk Jones to the team to help us improve things, and we’re excited to return to Festive Road, the place where we started.

Jones is producing the movie with Branwen and Mike Prestwood Smith from 48 Films, David Barron from BeaglePug Ltd, and Jack Whitehall from Jackpot Productions. One Story High is also a production company involved.
Reports surfaced last year that officials in Whitehall were exploring a movie adaptation of Mr. Benn, sparked by a long-held personal fondness for the television series.
Okay, so the latest issue of Living Legends magazine just dropped, and it’s ALL about Harry Styles! It’s a 100-page, full-color special – seriously, it looks amazing. You can grab a copy at any newsstand or order it online if you’re like me and don’t want to leave the house!
