Dee Wallace, aged 76, is well-known for her role as the character Mary Taylor, a single mother, in the popular film “E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial,” directed by Steven Spielberg.

1982 saw the theater release of a groundbreaking film that reigned as the top box office earner globally for an impressive 11 years, before being dethroned by Jurassic Park in 1993.

Stars such as Drew Barrymore, Henry Thomas, Robert MacNaughton, Peter Coyote, and C. Thomas Howell were also part of the hit movie.

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial became a massive hit with both critics and viewers, earning an astounding $792.9 million at the box office while only costing $10.5 million to produce.

This project was nominated for a grand total of nine Oscars and managed to win in four categories: Best Original Score, Best Visual Effects, Best Sound, and Best Sound Editing, claiming victory in each.

In a tranquil LA neighborhood earlier this Thursday, Wallace took her pet for a stroll during her recent excursion.

The star opted for a relaxed look, donning a long-sleeve, charcoal gray sweater along with cream-toned track pants.

To complete the look, Dee donned a pair of cozy, black athletic shoes tied with shoelaces.

Besides donning a chic pair of dark sunglasses, she also shielded her eyes from the California’s radiant sunlight on her casual walk.

During the festive holiday period, Wallace marked her 76th birthday on December 14th.

Originating from Kansas City in 1948, this star initially cultivated a passion for acting by observing her theatrical mother on stage.

Following her graduation with a teaching degree from the University of Kansas, Dee began instructing drama at Washington High School, which is located in her hometown.

Her professional journey commenced during the 70s, with her landing minor roles in TV series like ‘The Streets of San Francisco’, ‘Ellery Queen’, ‘Police Woman’ and ‘Hart to Hart’.

1975 saw her acting role in the film “The Stepford Wives”, a production that featured the talents of Katharine Ross, Paula Prentiss, Peter Masterson, and Nanette Newman as well.

In the year 1977, two years after his previous role, Wallace assumed a more significant part in the chilling horror movie titled “The Hills Have Eyes,” a production penned and orchestrated by Wes Craven.

1981 saw her continuing her film career, featuring in horror films like “The Howling,” which was notably recognized with a Saturn Award for the category of Best Horror Film.

The next year, Dee achieved widespread recognition by portraying Mary Taylor in Steven Spielberg’s cherished movie, E.T., The Extraterrestrial.

In this story, a child who’s going through tough times musters up the bravery to aid an amiable extraterrestrial in escaping Earth and making it back to his own planet. (As shown on IMDb)

In an interview with SYFY back in 2022, Wallace reminisced about being part of the film and collaborating with a distinguished ensemble cast, as well as a highly regarded director.

She said, “It wasn’t the least bit chaotic as far as I can recall.” The youngsters behaved quite professionally… They certainly weren’t like typical Hollywood children. In fact, many of them were just getting their start in the business.

Robert, who portrayed the eldest son, boasted a considerable amount of experience, particularly in stage performances, and he was truly remarkable. As for Henry, he had already appeared in several films prior to this point, if my memory serves me correctly.

Dee remarked, ‘Drew exclaimed, “Hello! I’m Drew and I’m about to take charge here!” During their free time, when they weren’t attending school, they would either be outside playing basketball or inside Steven’s office enjoying the arcade games he provided.’

The entire production exuded a strong sense of family, which I believe is clearly reflected in the final movie.

Additionally, Wallace openly acknowledged that at first, she believed her professional journey might have ended prior to the film’s debut in cinemas.

She shared that she initially spotted it in the studio surrounded by several executives. Upon returning home, she told her spouse, “I believe my career has ended. Not a single response was given.

He grabbed my hand and declared, “We’ll be attending the premiere together at the theater next week. It’s opening then,” he said. With everyone else, we waited in line, and the experience was fantastic.

Wallace recalled, ‘Folks were chuckling, they were weeping, they were applauding, they were rising, they were embracing one another.’

At Universal, everyone seemed hesitant to respond in case their supervisor responded differently. It was a bit unclear, but witnessing it with the initial audience was truly enchanting.

Over the span of her professional acting journey, Dee boasts an impressive 272 acting roles, as indicated on her official IMDb profile.

Among the horror movies she appeared in are Critters from 1986, The Frighteners released in 1996, Halloween from 2007, The House of the Devil produced in 2009, and The Lords of Salem, which came out in 2012.

She’s also appeared in several recent TV shows, including 9-1-1, The Bay, and the 2023 version of Fatal Attraction.

Over numerous years, Dee has been a recurring character in several TV series such as The Twilight Zone, The Office, Criminal Minds, Grey’s Anatomy, My Name Is Earl, Supernatural, and General Hospital.

In the year 2016, she received a nomination for a Daytime Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Special Guest Performer in a Drama Series, for her role as Patricia Spencer on General Hospital.

Wallace – who became a grandmother last year in August – has 14 projects under her belt.

One of their projects features a show called “The Boroughs,” which is brought to us by the talented duo behind the widely popular Netflix series known as “Stranger Things.”

Or in an even more conversational way:

The Duffer Brothers, who made “Stranger Things” a huge hit on Netflix, are working on another show called “The Boroughs.” That’s one of their productions!
