The remake of Murder, She Wrote is moving forward! A director has been chosen for the project, which has been in development for years, and things are finally coming together nicely.
This movie is inspired by the beloved original TV show. Jamie Lee Curtis will play Jessica Fletcher, a mystery writer and amateur sleuth who investigates and solves different crimes, a role previously made famous by Angela Lansbury.
In September 2023, it was announced that Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, the screenwriters behind Dumb Money, would write the script, and Amy Pascal would produce the film.

Filmmakers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller joined the project as executive producers in December 2024, and Curtis came on board in July. After another six months, a director has finally been chosen for the film.
According to Deadline, Jason Moore, the director of Pitch Perfect, is set to direct this new project. While he didn’t direct the sequels to Pitch Perfect, he was an executive producer on both of them.

Following his success with a musical comedy, he went on to direct the films Sisters in 2015 and Shotgun Wedding in 2022. He’s also worked on several TV shows, including Dawson’s Creek and Everwood, and is currently involved with the Legally Blonde prequel, Elle.
Curtis had mentioned the planned revival of Murder, She Wrote, telling Entertainment Tonight in July that she was trying to remain patient until filming began. She explained she had a few other projects to finish first before she could fully focus on the show.
The show originally aired on CBS from 1984 to 1996, running for 12 seasons and a total of 264 episodes, including four made-for-TV movies. Angela Lansbury played the main character throughout the entire series.

Although Angela Lansbury as Jessica Fletcher was the biggest draw, the show also featured a talented group of recurring actors, including Tom Bosley, William Windom, Ron Masak, and Louis Herthum, who appeared in several episodes.
While the reboot isn’t coming to theaters right away, viewers in the UK were able to rewatch the original series on Channel 5 to get ready. It’s no longer available there, but hopefully it will be added to another streaming service soon!
Murder, She Wrote has no release date.
