Critics have fallen in love with Outlander season 8.
Outlander, the popular historical fantasy series based on Diana Gabaldon’s books, tells the story of Claire Randall, a World War II nurse who unexpectedly travels back in time and finds love with Jamie Fraser, a Scottish Highlander. The show’s eighth season, which will be its last, premiered on Starz on March 6th.
Shortly after it premiered, the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes calculated an official score for the new season of Outlander. As of this writing, season 8 has a perfect 100% score, based on six critic reviews, though this score may change as more reviews come in.
Early reviews for Outlander season 8 are very positive. Critics have given it high scores, including two 8s out of 10 and a nearly perfect 3.5 out of 4.
If the current perfect rating holds as more reviews come in, season 8 will become the best-rated season of the show, surpassing season 7’s 95% score. This continues a consistent trend of very positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes that all previous seasons of Outlander have maintained.
Here’s a look at how each season of the series, including the spin-off Blood of My Blood, has been received on Rotten Tomatoes. Blood of My Blood is a prequel focusing on Claire and Jamie’s parents, which premiered in 2025 and will be back for another season.

It’s still unclear how viewers will react to Outlander season 8, according to Rotten Tomatoes’ audience score. Usually, seasons with high critic scores (over 90%) also get great scores from audiences, but season 7 didn’t follow that pattern.
Before season 8 came out, season 7 was unique – it received the highest critic score and the lowest audience score of any season in the series. Even if season 8 isn’t as popular with viewers, most people still expect it to be well-received by both critics and audiences, finishing the series on a positive note.
Despite first airing in 2014, Outlander continues to attract a wide audience. With the main Outlander series coming to a close, this could mean positive things for season two of the spin-off, Blood of My Blood, and the future of the Outlander story overall.
