Ice Age 6 in the works, the second time for Disney – but with the original voice cast

As a seasoned gamer and movie enthusiast who’s witnessed the rise and fall of countless franchises, I must say, I find myself both surprised and amused by the news that Ice Age 6 is in production. It’s like watching an old friend try to make a comeback after a series of questionable choices.

Sixth time’s the charm for The Herd.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news! I’ve learned that we’re moving forward with Ice Age 6, and it’s currently in production! This revelation was made at Disney’s D23 Brazil event, where they unveiled a video featuring our beloved voice actors like Ray Romano, Queen Latifah, John Leguizamo, as well as Denis Leary and Simon Pegg. Can’t wait to see what adventures these characters will embark on next!

Blue Sky Studios’ most popular animated series served as their primary money-maker, raking in a staggering $3.2 billion globally and propelling the studio to great heights. The final Ice Age film, Collision Course from 2016, earned a whopping $408.5 million at the global box office. Reviews for these movies have been diverse, with Collision Course receiving a 18% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Following Disney’s purchase of Fox, which encompassed Blue Sky Studios, the company focused on growing the franchise. This led to Disney releasing the spin-off titled “The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild“, initially planned as a Disney+ series but eventually transformed into a full-length streaming film. Unfortunately, the reception was underwhelming. Among the original voice actors, only Pegg returned for the movie, taking on his popular character, Buck the Weasel, once more.

It’s clear that 20th Century Animation is leading the project, but it’s yet to be determined which animation studio will be contracted for the work, or if Bardel Animation, who took over Ice Age Adventures after Blue Sky shut down, might participate in the production.

Despite anything else, it’s worth noting that the sixth Ice Age movie will be the first one in the series to be directed by Disney officially.
