Ian Smith’s Heartbreaking Admission and Surprising New Role After Neighbours Exit
In an unexpected turn, former “Neighbours” actor Ian Smith has made an appearance in a new promotional campaign, after his emotional exit from the lengthy television series just last month.
In a brief video posted on her social media account, the esteemed Australian actor, aged 86, can be seen advocating for Independent Member of Parliament Zoe Daniel.
In the video, Smith can be observed having a conversation with Daniel, who’s 52 years old, at a preliminary polling station. He explains to the ex-ABC journalist turned politician why he’s casting his vote for her and discloses a heartrending revelation about his terminal cancer prognosis.
‘I’m pretty sure this is going to be my last vote, so you may as well make it count,’ Smith says.
‘So if you get in and don’t do what you said, then I am never going to talk to you again!’
Daniel’s primary focus areas encompass tackling escalating living expenses, taking decisive action on environmental issues, and fostering equal opportunities for all genders.
Smith adds that he saw Daniel’s policies as being necessary for a stronger society.
Smith urges the MP, saying, “This individual’s unique viewpoints are incredibly valuable… Unfortunately, I haven’t heard anyone express this sentiment yet. It’s crucial that their perspectives are shared.
Over the past month, I’ve been utterly heartbroken, for Neighbours, one of my all-time favorite shows, bid farewell to a cherished character: the legendary Harold Bishop. And it was no ordinary goodbye; Smith, the man behind Harold, made his final appearance as he bravely faced his real-life cancer struggle.
In a tear-jerking scene as he bid farewell to his beloved Ramsay Street friends.
Harold shared with the audience that the experience was not just “interesting,” but rather something he felt “fortunate” or “privileged” to be part of. He went on to say that the friendships he formed were truly exceptional, ones that meant more to him than just a casual acquaintance or passing encounter.
1. “You’ve gone beyond just being neighbors; each of you has added a touch of richness to my life. I carry you all in my heart forever.”
OR
2. “More than simply neighbors, you’ve become an integral part of my life. Every single one of you has left an indelible mark on my heart. You remain there always.”
In this particular installment, it was decided by Harold that he would bid farewell to Erinsborough permanently and relocate to Port Douglas, Queensland, to be near his granddaughter.
Heartbroken fans took to social media to share their sadness over Harold’s departure.

One individual expressed it as follows: ‘Harold… Ian Smith… an icon. It seems like we’re saying goodbye to a family member, given your departure. It’s been a delightful 40 years. Here’s hoping you find plenty of joy and affection.’
As the character leaves, there comes an unexpectedly positive health report from Smith, who shares that he feels exceptional, even though he was diagnosed with terminal cancer only a few months back.
The actor was told late last year he had just weeks to live.
However, astonishingly, after undergoing a revolutionary immunotherapy procedure, he claimed to feel as if he has been rejuvenated or renewed, similar to a rebirth.
In a deeply emotional conversation, Smith shared during an interview on The Project that he was expected to pass away in March, but miraculously, he’s still alive. As a result, he’s using this opportunity to discuss his recent experiences with death.
‘The only way I know for certain is that doctors have informed me repeatedly that I have cancer. Despite this, I don’t feel any pain at all – not a trace of it.’
Doctors informed Smith that he had an uncommon and aggressive type of lung cancer known as pulmonary pleomorphic carcinoma, which they originally deemed as incurable.
However, following his placement on an innovative treatment regimen, humorously referred to as being a “test subject,” he surpassed predictions and is optimistically aiming for “an additional year, perhaps even two.
