‘I will forever hate goodbyes’: Liam Payne’s girlfriend Kate Cassidy pays tribute to the One Direction star on the one year anniversary of his death

Kate Cassidy, Liam Payne’s girlfriend, shared a heartfelt message on Instagram to remember the One Direction singer on the one-year anniversary of his passing.

The singer tragically passed away at the age of 31 in October 2024 after a fall from a hotel balcony in Argentina. Tests later showed he had alcohol, cocaine, and an antidepressant in his system.

Kate shared a sweet black and white picture of the pair in bed with Liam kissing her cheek.

Kate shared another photo to her Stories, showing her hugging Liam while they enjoyed a cozy, snowy winter getaway.

It’s been a year since Liam passed away, and she’s still heartbroken. She wrote that she’ll never get used to saying goodbye and deeply misses him.

Meanwhile Harry Styles’ mother Anne Twist was among the fan tributes shared on Thursday.

Liam’s bandmate’s mother shared a heartfelt message of her own, reposting the tribute from the All On The Board Instagram account along with a longer statement.

Wishing you a peaceful and safe afterlife, filled with love from those who knew you here on Earth.

The message was signed with love from your family, friends, One Direction, and all the Directioners, and included special wishes for your son, Bear.

Fans who’ve followed Liam for years shared heartfelt messages on X, saying his voice will be remembered forever, even after his untimely passing.

We’re deeply saddened by Liam’s passing. His incredible voice and vibrant energy will be dearly missed, but his music will continue to inspire and live on. Rest in peace.

I’ll never stop loving and missing you. Thank you for all the joy you brought into my life. Rest in peace, my sweet angel. It’s hard to believe it’s already been a year.

‘Forever in our hearts, his music will always be with me;

It’s been a year now, and honestly, I thought time would make things a little easier, but it hasn’t, not for me. Some days, the sadness just hits me so hard, it feels unbearable. I miss Liam terribly, every single day. The ache of missing him is still so strong.

‘Still deeply missed today; He’s looking up at the rest of the boys and he’s so proud I know it;

It’s hard to believe a year has passed. I still remember exactly how I felt when I found out, like my heart was racing, and it still doesn’t feel real. Even though I never met him, it feels like a significant loss.

It’s heartbreaking to see so many young lives lost to drug abuse and mental health struggles. He will be deeply missed and remembered fondly for the time we had with him.

After Liam passed away last year, his bandmates each shared heartfelt memories of him. A month later, they came together again at his funeral, marking their first reunion since the band broke up in 2016.

Last week, Liam’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, shared that she also felt suicidal after he passed away.

She slipped into a two-month depression after the One Direction singer’s tragic passing.

She explained to Page Six that she spent a lot of time coping with sadness and pain, and simply didn’t feel motivated to enjoy life.

After a few weeks, she finally understood that she needed to start living her life and get out of bed each day.

Kate said she started by setting an alarm to get out of bed one hour earlier day after day.

She started exercising regularly, eating healthy foods, and focusing on living a fulfilling life, both for her own well-being and for the sake of Liam.

Because Liam passed away without a will, he died ‘intestate.’ This means, as an unmarried father, his possessions will be divided among his children.

Okay, so everyone’s talking about what’s going to happen with Liam’s money, and honestly, I’ve been following this *so* closely. Even with everything he’s been through – you know, the struggles – he’s somehow held onto a ton of it from his boyband days. And I’m almost positive it’s all going to be put into a trust for his adorable little boy, Bear. He deserves it, and it’s such a smart move to secure Bear’s future. I just *know* it!

The Daily Mail reported in May that Liam’s former partner, Cheryl, is responsible for managing his money in a trust for their son, Bear, until he reaches adulthood.

People close to the former singer said he was determined to financially protect his son, no matter what happened to him.

Court records show that Payne’s estate was initially valued at £28.6 million, but after covering his debts and expenses, the final amount was reduced to £24.3 million.

A friend of the singer said it’s somewhat comforting to know that Bear will be well taken care of and won’t need anything.

According to a source, Liam was surrounded by good advisors for a while, and he really loved his son, Bear. He was committed to providing for him financially and always aimed to do what was best.

After Liam passed away, a limited grant of probate (Ad Colligenda Bona) was issued for his estate. This type of grant is often used when the executors of an estate quickly find a buyer for the deceased’s property.

Cheryl’s name appeared in the legal papers with Richard Bray, a leading music attorney who has worked with famous artists like Ed Sheeran.

Fans were shocked and saddened by the unexpected death of Liam in October. He fell from a balcony on the third floor of the Casa Sur Hotel while in Argentina.

The official cause of death was determined to be polytrauma, meaning the individual suffered multiple, serious injuries.

In Argentina, five people are facing charges related to the death of a singer who fell from a balcony on the third floor.

Authorities in Argentina have charged the hotel manager, a receptionist, and an associate of Payne with manslaughter, according to a previous statement from the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office.
