Approximately six weeks following Liam Payne’s burial in the Amersham churchyard, Buckinghamshire, the investigation surrounding his death has experienced a significant shift, with developments occurring some 7,000 miles away in Buenos Aires.

Based on reports from Argentine news sources, it’s been reported that five individuals have been formally accused regarding the death of the 31-year-old member of One Direction.

Among them is Rogelio ‘Roger’ Nores, a close associate of Payne, who stands accused of negligent homicide and barred from traveling.

Two high-ranking employees at the hotel where Payne passed away are facing charges for manslaughter, while an additional hotel worker and a server from a neighboring eatery are both accused of providing the celebrity with illegal substances.

After spending numerous years going in and out of rehabilitation centers, Payne tragically passed away on October 16, following a fall from the balcony of his hotel suite located at CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires. He was residing there while waiting for the renewal of his American visa.

An examination following his death determined it was due to extensive injuries leading to both internal and external bleeding, with additional findings showing traces of cocaine, alcohol, and a prescribed antidepressant in his system.

Yesterday, the Court No. 34 of Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Court system acted upon findings from an extensive 11-week probe conducted under intense public gaze and speculation.

For around three weeks in November, I provided updates on Liam Payne’s passing from Buenos Aires. During this time, I interacted with several individuals who were acquainted with the pop star and the case. Although these allegations were not unexpected, they signal the start of a significant new phase in this heart-wrenching narrative.

So who has been charged, and what are the strengths of the cases against them?

Braian Nahuel Paiz, a 24-year-old waiter at the upscale Cabana Las Lilas restaurant in Puerto Madero (known for its £108 flambéed steak), has been accused of providing a celebrity with illicit substances in return for cash.

So, too, has 21-year-old Ezequiel Pereyra who worked in the CasaSur Hotel.

As a devoted follower, I’m sharing that Judge Laura Graciela Bruniard has ordered both individuals to be held in detention. Should they be proven guilty, they could potentially spend up to 15 years behind bars.

In a November 9 interview, Paiz emphatically stated that he never received or gave money during instances where he confessed to using drugs and consuming alcohol with the singer.

He mentioned earlier that he’s proposed money through messages, as it seems he often does for various things, but I’ve never taken him up on his offers.

Based on my years of legal practice, I can confidently say that when a defense lawyer like Fernando Madeo signals an intent to appeal a judge’s ruling, it means they believe there are strong grounds for doing so and are not ready to give up the fight for their client, Paiz, just yet. As for the allegations connecting Paiz with Pereyra, I must clarify that my professional experience has taught me that often, people may be linked in a legal context without having any personal connections in real life. It’s important to remember that these are merely allegations at this stage and we should reserve judgment until all facts have been presented and evaluated by the court.

The main accusation against CasaSur’s head receptionist, Esteban Grassi, and the hotel manager, Gilda Martín, is a grave one: manslaughter.

The involvement of CasaSur staff in Payne’s demise came to light around mid-November, as this newspaper revealed a startling CCTV snapshot from the hotel, seemingly depicting three staff members carrying an unconscious singer through the foyer shortly before his passing.

According to The Mail, it’s known that Esteban Grassi and Gilda Martín were among those seen carrying Payne. A third individual, reportedly a masseur from the hotel, is thought to have also been part of this group. However, this person is not connected to the ongoing criminal investigation.

Examining the hotel’s security camera recordings sparked several pressing inquiries, such as whether the staff could have potentially prevented Payne’s demise by dialing for an ambulance promptly upon observing him lose consciousness, apparently due to drug use, instead of escorting him back to his room with its balcony.

As someone who has had to make difficult decisions in the past, I can empathize with Grassi’s situation. He was clearly aware of the danger he had put Payne in by allowing him access to a room with a balcony and expressing concern about his well-being when calling 911. It seems that Grassi was torn between wanting to help and being afraid of what Payne might do. This kind of situation can be challenging, especially when dealing with someone who is unpredictable or in distress. In my experience, it’s important to prioritize the safety of all parties involved and take action to ensure everyone’s well-being.

Regarding the pair (Grassi and Martin), it seems they may have erred significantly by failing to immediately call for medical help when Payne was injured, as it is ultimately the court that will decide their guilt or innocence.

However, the most astonishing allegation is directed at Roger Nores, who was not only a friend but also a close confidant of Payne. I had the opportunity to get acquainted with him well in November. Upon our initial encounter in a Buenos Aires cafe about a month after Payne’s demise, it was evident that Roger was still grappling with the shock of the events.

He shared with me, clearly upset, that he often feels like he’ll run into him or his phone will call with him on the other side.

Throughout several discussions, I closely scrutinized Roger’s account regarding the events prior to Payne’s demise in the preceding days and hours. His explanation didn’t lead me to suspect him of negligent homicide.

So what is it that the police in Buenos Aires appear to know that the rest of us do not?

35-year-old Roger is quite different from the hedonistic and troubled celebrity he initially met at a party held by Edward Enninful, the former editor-in-chief of British Vogue, in 2020. In contrast to this individual, Roger speaks softly, abstains from alcohol, and claims to have never used any illicit substances throughout his life.

Roger put it this way to me: ‘Actually, we both had a secret wish to emulate one another in our own unique ways.’ He yearned for a touch of spontaneity and excitement in his life, whereas Liam desired a hint of predictability and calmness,” (or)

“Roger clarified, ‘The reality is that we each wanted to mirror the other to some extent.’ I wished he’d be more outgoing and enjoy life more, but Liam secretly longed for a bit of dullness in him,” (or)

Roger’s description of their connection was straightforward. Over the course of the last year, with Liam’s drug problem escalating, the businessman persistently attempted to shield him – in his own words, acting as a ‘senior sibling’.

During the summer season, it fell upon Roger to assist Liam in acclimating to life in Florida. He resided in a lavish mansion that cost $12,000 per month, sharing it with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy. Additionally, he organized a group of medical experts to take care of him.

In August, Roger penned an email that later gained significant attention, appealing to Liam’s team in the UK to care for the distressed artist during his trip to Manchester for a Netflix TV show production.

Essentially, it seems that the individual who has been indicted for negligent homicide was, concurrently, the one person actively ensuring Liam’s safety.

In the early afternoon of October 16, Roger and Liam stepped into CasaSur Hotel. Shortly after, only Roger remained. Initially, Roger appeared cheerful and playful, engaging with other guests. However, just forty minutes later, Liam was discovered lifeless in the hotel’s inner courtyard.

Is it plausible that Roger Nores foresaw the events leading to the unfortunate incident? It’s important to note that while they were friends, there was no binding agreement or professional obligation between them, as confirmed in a letter from Payne’s U.S lawyer and reviewed by The Mail.

Contrary to numerous individuals within Payne’s circle, I, the self-reliant Nores, have always chosen not to accept a single coin from the singer, relying solely on my own wealth.

Ultimately, the court will determine if Nores had a duty to care for Payne and whether leaving him at the hotel for 40 minutes before his unexpected deterioration and passing can be considered as negligent behavior.

However, it’s important to remember that when Liam Payne passed away in October, he became the most discussed topic worldwide for a while. This situation put the Argentine authorities under intense international spotlight.
