Superhero movies are still incredibly popular, and many of them exist within shared universes. However, Matt Reeves’ The Batman (available on HBO Max) stands apart, existing in its own separate world. Colin Farrell, who plays The Penguin in the film, recently hinted that the script for Part II is exceptional, even calling it a “masterwork.” Fans are eagerly anticipating its release – if only it were here already!
What we know about The Batman: Part II is extremely limited, as the cast only recently got a completed script. Fans are curious about the upcoming DC movie, which is being kept under wraps for the time being. Farrell recently appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, where he was asked about his reaction to the sequel’s mysterious script. He praised Reeves’ work, saying:
Matt and I had a video call a few weeks ago, and I really enjoy our easy, friendly relationship. We ended up chatting for about an hour, not about our project, Penguin, but about a script he wrote. I had a lot of thoughts on it, and honestly, I think it’s a brilliant piece of work.
It feels like we’re waiting forever for the next DC movie! While The Penguin series got me excited about The Batman again, it’s still going to be a while before we know what Matt Reeves is planning. If Colin Farrell’s comments are true and this next film is his best work yet, the wait might be worth it. Hopefully, we’ll get some details about the story soon.

As a total movie buff, I’m always checking out streaming options, and HBO Max is definitely one to consider. You can get a subscription starting at just $10.99 a month – the ‘Basic With Ads’ plan – and it’s the place to go for everything DC, including the awesome world of Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Seriously, they have thousands of movies, shows, documentaries, you name it. It’s a great deal if you’re looking to dive into a ton of content.
The season finale of The Penguin hinted at the return of Robert Pattinson as Batman, a character who hadn’t appeared in the series until now. Viewers seem even more excited about this take on Gotham City, which is great news as we wait for The Batman: Part II to come out in a few years. Colin Farrell also shared some details about what the main character in the sequel will be doing.
This is a really wonderful story, and Robert’s character goes through a beautiful and engaging experience that the audience will enjoy following.
Reeves is clearly putting his own spin on The Dark Knight story. Pattinson didn’t get much screen time as Bruce Wayne in the first film, spending most of it as Batman. It will be interesting to see if the next movie continues that trend, or if we finally get to see more of Bruce Wayne’s life outside the mask.
Fans are really excited for any news about The Batman: Part II, but it seems Colin Farrell actually knew some details quite a while before the script was even released. He explained that he wanted to be mentally prepared to fully commit to his role and contribute to the story.
I received the script, but it took me two weeks to start reading it. When I first opened it, I saw it was very complex, incredibly smart, and full of detail.
I’m really disappointed to hear Cristin Milioti won’t be back as Sofia Falcone in The Batman: Part II, but it sounds like the director, Matt Reeves, has a very clear vision for the movie. Colin Farrell seems incredibly excited about it, and that’s a good sign. It’s just frustrating that we have such a long wait ahead of us.
The sequel to The Batman is now scheduled for release on October 1st, 2027. Before that, Supergirl will be in theaters on June 26th as part of DC’s 2026 movie lineup.
