“His and Hers” is the new Netflix limited series everyone is talking about. This mystery show centers on a divorced couple who team up to investigate a string of murders in their community. While the series is full of surprises, the ultimate reveal is particularly satisfying.

I was really surprised and excited by how the story ended – and I think it’s worth talking about in more detail. The finale was truly thrilling.

A year has passed, and Anna (Tessa Thompson) and Jack (Jon Bernthal) have rebuilt their relationship and are doing well. While at her mother’s house, Anna discovers a letter revealing her mother confessed to being the murderer – claiming she committed the crimes to avenge Anna.

Alice, played by Crystal Fox, has been pretending to have memory problems and dementia to cover up her criminal activity and avoid suspicion. I was certain Richard and Lexy weren’t involved, and Alice never crossed my mind as the perpetrator. But the reveal of her deception was brilliantly executed and could be one of the best twists in television history.

The show, and likely the book it’s based on, does a great job of explaining everything. You might initially question whether an older woman could pull off all these crimes, but you’re willing to accept it and go along with the story. Each new revelation keeps things thrilling and enjoyable. You find yourself admiring the clever twists and respecting the main character, who, while a criminal, has understandable reasons for her actions. The ending of His and Her is exactly the kind of surprise I love in a mystery – it’s a wild ride that still feels logical. It’s a complex and satisfying conclusion, not just a simple, predictable reveal. We need more stories with mothers as compelling serial killers!

The Ending Was A Little Bit Silly, But Still Powerful

I really appreciated that Alice’s motivations for committing these crimes were rooted in seeking justice for her daughter. However, it felt a bit unbelievable that someone her age could physically carry out so many attacks. It’s hard to imagine she’d have the strength or endurance for that much violence, especially considering she previously seemed like someone who preferred staying home. The show does a good job of ultimately emphasizing that Alice wasn’t relying on physical strength, but rather on her intelligence and careful planning.

She consistently evaded capture because her attacks were unexpected. People underestimated her, which allowed her to overcome her victims. While some details of the murders are still unclear, it’s a fascinating plot twist. Alice’s motivations stem from her intense love for her daughter – a love that gives her power and strength. The series is particularly commendable for portraying single parents in a positive light.

A parent’s love knows no bounds, and this story explores that fiercely protective instinct. It also highlights the importance of living life to the fullest, regardless of age or physical limitations. Alice is aware people often dismiss her because she’s older, but she uses that to her advantage. This contrasts with cultures, like Priya’s, that deeply value and care for their elders. The film points out how often older people aren’t given the same respect or consideration. Alice’s success feels empowering for seniors who are often underestimated and disregarded – a reminder that age doesn’t diminish ability and they are more than capable of surprising everyone.

I Am Completely Shocked That I Didn’t See The His And Hers Ending Coming

I always try to solve the mystery as soon as I meet the characters in a crime story. At first, I thought Richard and Lexy were the culprits, believing Lexy was actually Catherine seeking revenge for a past assault. But as the story unfolded, that seemed too straightforward. My suspicion then shifted to Anna, who I thought might be getting revenge for her own assault. I briefly considered Alice as the killer, but ultimately, the story kept me guessing and I didn’t figure out the solution before the reveal.

I especially loved how unexpected this show was, and it really enhanced my enjoyment. I haven’t read the book by Alice Feeney, but I’m now curious if the big reveal is more apparent in that version, or if the author successfully keeps it a secret until the very end. Regardless, I think any mystery that can genuinely surprise me deserves high praise.

The Twist Felt Satisfying, And I Only Had A Tiny Bit Of Sympathy For The Victims

I often find myself feeling sorry for the people who are murdered in mystery stories. It makes me think about whether their actions somehow justified what happened to them. The show His and Hers really made me believe that most of the characters – with the possible exception of Richard – ultimately got what they deserved. I did have a little more sympathy for Lexy, because she was also a victim and nearly sexually assaulted. Still, because she showed no regret for killing her sister, I felt she wasn’t entirely innocent and that some kind of consequence was fitting.

She could have intervened to help Anna, but instead, she let the attack happen. The other characters who were killed appeared to be too far gone to be saved. And, considering everything that was happening, Alice’s choices felt reasonable – they brought their fates upon themselves.

I Thought There Were A Lot Of Inspirational Messages That Came With The His And Hers Twist

I always felt the main takeaway from His and Hers was a simple but important one: never underestimate older people. While not the central focus, this theme quietly shaped the story and became surprisingly significant by the end. It’s rare to see older characters portrayed as morally complex, and stories that do often feel more layered and compelling. This unexpected twist is what made His and Hers so captivating when it first aired.

I especially appreciated the show’s exploration of the powerful connection between mothers and daughters. The death of Anna’s daughter is devastating for her, and Alice’s guilt drives her to the brink of madness, resulting in intense displays of female anger and a quest for revenge. His and Hers features compelling female characters, both good and bad. While the male characters are adequate, the women truly lead the story, which ultimately makes the show stronger.
