It’s hard to imagine any show surpassing The Simpsons when it comes to Halloween specials – this year’s episode was great, as usual – but Bob’s Burgers consistently delivers excellent spooky stories too. What I love about Bob’s Burgers is that it keeps its heartwarming tone while still capturing the Halloween spirit, with fun stories for both the kids and adults. I always look forward to their Halloween and Christmas episodes, but unfortunately, there’s a concern they might not be around for much longer.

Loren Bouchard, the creator of Bob’s Burgers, recently spoke with TopMob after the show reached a major milestone: its 300th episode will air in 2025. While fans are relieved that Fox has already renewed the show for four more seasons, Bouchard hinted that the network might change how and when episodes are broadcast, particularly when discussing the importance of the show’s popular Halloween specials.
He began by noting that Halloween episodes have become a crucial tradition for the show, both for him personally and for its overall history. As the show’s creator explained:
That’s a tough question! Here are two things that are both true. First, we genuinely enjoy creating these shows. It’s been a lot of fun since the start, and it reminds me of watching holiday specials as a child, like the Peanuts Thanksgiving or Christmas episodes. That feeling of writing a holiday episode is special. It feels like we’re building on something great – we were already proud to be on Fox on Sunday nights with other animated shows like The Simpsons.
Considering episodes like “The Hauntening,” “Nightmare on Ocean Avenue Street,” and “For Whom the Doll Toes,” Bob’s Burgers actually has a solid collection of Halloween stories and doesn’t require new ones each year. However, just because we don’t need things like ice cream or burgers doesn’t mean we wouldn’t miss them – and the same goes for the show’s annual Halloween episodes!
Loren Bouchard continued, addressing the potential shift that may impact the show in the future:
Holiday specials tap into a long history of animated traditions, like the classic Rankin/Bass productions and the Peanuts holiday shows. While we may not always air in the fall, it would be disappointing if we didn’t, because there’s something special about releasing a new episode on broadcast television right before a holiday.
Although Fox hasn’t officially announced it, it seems likely that Bob’s Burgers will return in January or February after its break. Another possibility is that the show could air throughout the summer to kick off the new Fall TV season. This might be done to allow Family Guy to return to its usual schedule alongside The Simpsons. However, Fox’s plans aren’t confirmed at this time.
Okay, so I was a little worried about the future of the show, but Loren Bouchard actually gave us some hope! He said even if they move away from the autumn setting, they could still do Halloween stories – just in different ways. Basically, he’s leaving the door open, and that’s a relief as a fan!
That’s alright, and if the show isn’t continuing on television in the fall, and we can’t maintain our usual schedule of holiday episodes, we’ll find another way to keep creating them. Perhaps we’ll release them directly on a streaming service instead.
Actually, a Halloween special for Bob’s Burgers isn’t a far-fetched idea. Family Guy already released one on Hulu this year, and the team behind The Simpsons has been making content for Disney+ for a while now. If fans start requesting it now, there’s a chance we could get a special episode ordered before the current season ends. [Hopefully!]
Okay, so if you’re a Bob’s Burgers fan like me, you’ll be happy to know all their past Halloween episodes—and everything else, really—are available to stream on Hulu. And if you want to keep up with the newest adventures, just tune in to Fox on Sunday nights at 9:30 p.m. Eastern!
