I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot confirms how it links to the ’90s classic

The initial poster for the remake of “I Know What You Did Last Summer” has been unveiled, hinting at how the upcoming sequel will blend with the original horror storyline.

In the forthcoming film, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson serves as director, bringing back the hook-wielding murderer from “Do Revenge”. Similar to the 1997 movie, this new installment revolves around a gang of friends who unintentionally cause a hit and run accident. Determined to conceal their actions, they embark on a secretive journey.

To outwit the killer, they resort to seeking help from the two individuals who lived through the 1997 Southport Massacre – specifically, the characters Julie James and Ray Bronson, portrayed once again by actors Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr.

Written collaboratively by Robinson and Sam Lansky, this film unites original cast members with a fresh set of main characters, similar to the latest installment of “Scream” (2022).

Suited perfectly for a summer premiere, the movie “I Know What You Did Last Summer” boasts an impressive cast including Madelyn Cline from “Glass Onion”, Sarah Pidgeon of “The Wilds”, Tyriq Withers from “Legacies”, Jonah Hauer-King who starred in “The Little Mermaid”, and Chase Sui Wonders, a familiar face from “The Studio”.

The ensemble is completed with Billy Campbell, Gabbriette Bechtel, Austin Nichols, Lola Tung, and Nicholas Alexander Chavez.

1997’s movie titled “I Scream You Scream” was penned by Kevin Williamson (known for “Scream” and “Dawson’s Creek”) and helmed by Jim Gillespie. The film featured Sarah Michelle Gellar, famously known as Buffy, in the role of Helen Shivers, alongside Ryan Phillippe portraying Barry Cox.

The storyline draws heavily from Lois Duncan’s 1973 novel bearing the same title, but certain aspects have been adapted to give it a vibe reminiscent of traditional slasher movies.

The initial film led to two subsequent movies. One was a continuation titled “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer“, while the other was a separate sequel featuring new characters called “I’ll Never Forget What You Did Last Summer“.

The first movie had two follow-ups – one was a second installment with the same title as “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer“, and another standalone sequel titled “I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer“.

I Know What You Did Last Summer hits cinemas on July 18.
