I was a huge fan of Osgood Perkins’ Longlegs last year, so I was really excited to see he had two new horror films for us in 2025! The first, The Monkey, was a really intense Stephen King adaptation that came out in February. And that’s when we got a first, creepy glimpse of his second movie, Keeper – they showed a short teaser after the credits of The Monkey, and it was seriously unsettling!
The horror film Keeper has been steadily approaching its release, but the studio distributing it, NEON, has been keeping details under wraps. While marketing has slowly rolled out, it’s been full of mystery, offering unsettling glimpses in trailers that raise more questions than they answer.
This new film is building anticipation with a smart, mysterious marketing strategy, similar to how Longlegs first gained attention. However, NEON, the studio behind it, is keeping things even more under wraps this time around.
Instead of building buzz at film festivals or with early screenings for critics and influencers, the movie Keeper has relied on positive word-of-mouth from well-known horror directors like Guillermo del Toro, James Wan, and Fede Álvarez. While the latest trailer shows more of the film, the central mystery remains unsolved as it hits theaters this Friday, November 14th.
Until now.
I’ve watched the entire movie, Keeper, and I understand what the advertising isn’t showing you. If you’re still deciding whether to go see it in theaters this weekend, I can now offer some insight to help you decide.
Before I say more, I want to assure anyone who prefers to go into the movie knowing as little as possible: Keeper isn’t just about creating a mysterious mood. While it’s been promoted as atmospheric, there is a real story, and it does have answers. If you’d like to discover those answers yourself, stop reading now, get your tickets, and let the movie surprise you when you see it.
If you’re still unsure, here’s a look at what’s really behind those unsettling previews.
Keeper’s Secret Premise Revealed: What’s Really Going On At The Cabin

So far, the only details released about the show Keeper reveal a couple, Liz (Tatiana Maslany) and Malcolm (Rossif Sutherland), going to a remote cabin for their anniversary. When Malcolm has to return to the city unexpectedly, Liz discovers she’s not as alone as she thought, and her experiences reveal a disturbing history connected to the cabin.
Right from the start, Perkins doesn’t try to conceal that something is deeply unsettling about this location. The film slowly reveals the truth through fragmented pieces, which eventually come together. However, we quickly realize this cabin belongs to Malcolm, and it’s obvious Liz isn’t his first girlfriend to visit.
Liz and Malcolm have been dating for a year, which is a long time for her. She’s a little uneasy heading into their trip, constantly worrying that Malcolm, who’s a doctor, might already be married. Whenever he needs to rush off to see a patient, she immediately fears he’s going to meet his wife. However, the story quickly reveals that Liz won’t be returning from this vacation – something dangerous is going to happen to her.
She first senses she’s being watched, a disturbing feeling that grows stronger. Soon, she’s plagued by unsettling dreams and visions of other women, experiences so real they feel like memories. It quickly becomes clear the danger isn’t just one thing, but many. The cabin, she discovers, is a place where ritual sacrifices happen, and she’s the intended victim for the creatures who dwell there.
Tatiana Maslany’s Journey Of Terror Builds To A Freaky Conclusion

Although the movie promotes a dual perspective, we primarily see the story unfold through Liz’s experiences. She becomes increasingly unsettled, first in her relationship and then in her grasp on reality, and thanks to Tatiana Maslany’s acting, we feel her growing fear right alongside her. The tension builds to a climax when she discovers the truth, and everything is finally revealed.
There are still some unanswered questions I’ve intentionally left for the movie to reveal, but the ending itself is clear. Throughout the film, we’ve had brief, unsettling hints of something hidden, and now those pieces come together in a truly terrifying way.
Whether or not you’ll find it scary is up to you – everyone experiences fear differently. But even after watching the whole film, I can confidently say that Keeper lives up to the creepy marketing it received. The filmmakers at Perkins and NEON took a risk by relying on unsettling images to attract horror fans, and it seems to be working! I hope I’ve persuaded those of you who are still unsure to give it a watch when it comes out this weekend.
