I honestly didn’t know who Emily Bader was until recently. But after watching her fantastic performance as the main character in People We Meet On Vacation on Netflix, I’m now a big fan and eager to see what she does next. And I just found out something about her that makes me like her even more!
The actress began working in Hollywood films and television in 2016. She’s especially known for her role in the Prime Video series My Lady Jane, which, despite positive reviews and a dedicated fan effort to save it, was cancelled after one season. People We Meet On Vacation is her first movie, and it quickly gained popularity on Netflix, racking up over 17 million views in its first three days (according to Variety). Here’s a charming detail the actress shared about herself:
I have a bit of a fantasy, though I know it’s unlikely. Whenever I visit websites about meteorites, they basically say if you think you’ve found one, it probably isn’t. Still, I dream of finding one, and I get really excited whenever I see a shooting star, hoping I can track where it landed. I haven’t been to a meteor shower yet, but I think that would definitely improve my chances.
Look, I already thought Emily Bader was fantastic – she’s seriously captivating alongside Tom Blyth in People We Meet On Vacation. But then I found out she’s a rock enthusiast? That’s amazing! It’s the kind of quirky detail I love hearing about actors, and honestly, even though I don’t know her, I’m just thrilled to see her doing so well and getting the recognition she deserves in Hollywood. It’s a total parasocial joy!
Bader talked about her love of geology while she was on The Drew Barrymore Show. Barrymore had heard about her interest and brought a bunch of rocks for her to take a look at. Emily Bader’s eyes lit up at the sight of them, and she shared why the topic dazzles her. I love when people share their weird passions like this. As she continued:
There’s just something incredibly captivating about geology to me. What I find so amazing about rocks, like this amethyst here, is thinking about their journey. The person who discovered this was the first to lay eyes on it in millions of years – the first to touch it since it originally formed! I know, I get really excited about this stuff, it’s a total nerd thing, but it’s just…wow.
I wasn’t very engaged in my college geology class, but Bader actually makes a compelling case for how fascinating the subject can be. You can watch a clip of their discussion here:

I’m hoping Emily Bader’s funny story about geology, which started on talk shows, will lead to fun moments like watching a meteor shower with Seth Meyers or stargazing with Jimmy Fallon. We’ll see if that happens! What’s great is that this quirky story is the first thing I’ve learned about her outside of her acting roles since it went viral.
The actress, new to the screen, stars as Poppy in the movie People We Meet On Vacation, which is adapted from the bestselling romance novel by Emily Henry. (You can find a detailed comparison of the movie and book if you’re interested.) Her co-star has likened her to Meg Ryan, and critics are also giving the film rave reviews.
