I have to use a wheelchair these days, admits Downton Abbey creator Lord Fellowes
Fans found themselves captivated by the aristocratic tale of Downton Abbey on television, but it’s unfortunate news that its creator, Julian Fellowes, is now confronting a tough predicament in his personal life.
It’s been mentioned that the screenwriter is mostly bound to a wheelchair due to a severe health issue that reappeared.
‘It’s true that I do spend too much time in a wheelchair these days,’ Lord Fellowes tells me.
Approximately four decades past, I received a diagnosis of spinal stenosis, likely stemming from an initial herniated disc issue. Following surgery, I underwent an extended recovery period before regaining my health, at which point I resumed activities such as dancing, horseback riding, and more.
Unfortunately, a few years back, I was informed that my condition had reoccurred, and following another surgery, I realized that my healing abilities at 75 weren’t as strong as they once were at 35. This, I guess, isn’t too unexpected.
Lord Fellowes, an Academy Award winner, shares that although he isn’t completely unable to move around, he spends most of his time seated. He expresses a sense of gratitude rather than misfortune, acknowledging that others face greater hardships.
It wasn’t until later in his life that Fellowes achieved significant success, when he was appointed to the House of Lords by David Cameron in 2011.
In another context, he gained prominence as a versatile actor, particularly for his portrayal of Kilwillie in the BBC One show “Monarch Of The Glen.” Subsequently, he ventured into scriptwriting, which was met with instant recognition.
Fellowes received an Academy Award for his screenplay for Gosford Park in 2002.
He earned a substantial wealth from Downton Abbey, a successful TV show and movie franchise. To date, it has produced six popular installments in the costume drama genre for ITV, along with two feature films. Collectively, they have grossed over £200 million at international box offices.
Chelsy’s new year cheer
These days, many photos of Prince Harry seem quite gloomy, yet Chelsy Davy, his former girlfriend, appears to be radiating joy.
39-year-old Chelsy posted a photo on social media recently as a New Year’s tribute, having previously had an intermittent romance with the prince that lasted for seven years, which ended in 2011.
In a carefree pose from a beach photo taken during warmer days, she expressed: ‘I can hardly wait for what’s ahead in 2025!’
In September last year, it was revealed that Chelsy had welcomed her second child, Chloe, into the world. Surprisingly, very few people were aware she was expecting. Similar to her ex-boyfriend and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, Chelsy now parents both a son and a daughter.
In the year 2022, it was revealed that Chelsy, the proprietor of a jewelry and travel enterprise, tied the knot with hotelier Sam Cutmore-Scott and welcomed a son named Leo into their family.
Rosie shuns Sitwell woes with a wedding
The Sitwell family and the institution of marriage have not always made happy bedfellows.
In fact, model Martha Sitwell openly criticized marriage, calling it a source of pure unhappiness. This sentiment stemmed from her marriage to baronet Sir George Sitwell which concluded in 2017. She claimed that it drained the joy from one’s existence.
But I’m delighted to say that hasn’t deterred Sir George’s cousin Rosie, 29.
The graphic designer, who is the great-granddaughter of poet Sacheverell ‘Sachie’ Sitwell, and who had a strained relationship with his older brother Sir Osbert due to her marriage, is now in a relationship with software expert George Carter, aged 31, a former student at Marlborough College, a prestigious school once attended by Princess Diana.
Alexandra shared with me that she’s delighted,” she said. The wedding is scheduled to take place at Renishaw, a centuries-old estate boasting 5,000 acres in Derbyshire.
Sting and Trudie meet Eliot’s new girlfriend
Legendary musician Sting, known as a rock star, has been happily married to film producer Trudie Styler for over three decades. Their daughter, Eliot Sumner, seems to appreciate this long-lasting harmony in her life.
It’s reported that Eliot, known for his role as a guard in the movie ‘No Time To Die’, is currently cultivating a deeper bond with Mollie Davis, who has two children.
This past summer, it became known that Eliot, age 34, who identifies as non-binary (rather than strictly female or male), was in a relationship with Mollie.
Now, Eliot has introduced her to Sting, the lead singer of The Police, and his partner Trudie, leaving her quite impressed. “I truly admire this family,” Mollie expresses.
Party animals Sir Ringo Starr and Keith Moon
I can confirm that, as a member of the cast, both Sir Ringo Starr and Keith Moon from The Who were known for their lively party spirits during the making of the rock ‘n’ roll film “That’ll Be The Day.” (David Essex)
The actor and singer, aged 77, reminisces that as the main star, I was typically awake at 6 a.m., while they would still be out partying until 5 a.m. in the morning.
In a cricket match, a player from Eric Clapton’s star-studded team, Essex, noticed that The Rolling Stones exhibited more good manners while batting compared to other occasions.
‘Bill Wyman would just stay in and not score much. And I remember bowling Ronnie Wood first ball.’
Nigel Farage given green light to demolish two-storey seafront home
Over the course of many years, his adversaries had often mocked him due to his consistent inability to secure a seat in the House of Commons. However, their self-assured mockery turned into disbelief when he was successfully elected as an MP for Clacton during last year’s General Election.
Now, the reform advocate Nigel Farage, known for overcoming hurdles with ease, is rejoicing yet again.
He’s now been approved to tear down an old, two-story seaside house he bought in Kent for £575,000 prior to the election, and construct a stunning new three-story building with a carport, a terrace sunk into the beach, and a balcony on the first floor that overlooks the sea.
When Farage, aged 60, submitted his application for planning approval, it was said that the neighbors were prepared for potential trouble once construction started.
It appears that all their doubts were put to rest – there were no complaints filed with the city hall, which could be a promising sign for Nigel’s advancement in 2025.
