I Hate Dating Shows, But Netflix’s Cheat: Unfinished Business Has Me Hooked

To set the record straight, I’m not a fan of dating shows at all. For quite some time, I’ve found myself disdaining reality TV programs such as The Bachelor and Couples Therapy, along with any other series that focus on relationships, new or old. Occasionally, I’ve allowed myself to make an exception for the more outrageous, scandalous, and tumultuous shows within this genre. And currently, I find myself drawn to Cheat: Unfinished Business airing on Netflix.

This reality TV series, focusing on seven troubled couples who try to mend their relationships after infidelity in a retreat setting, is generally considered a poorly made show. Yet, I find myself unexpectedly enjoying it immensely, making it one of the most engaging viewing experiences I’ve had from this year’s television lineup so far, and I’m still unsure about my feelings towards that fact.

I Usually Have No Time For These Types Of Shows, But I Watched Cheat Out Of A Morbid Curiosity

Typically, I steer clear of shows that are full of drama, theatrics, and people playing the blame game over their unfaithfulness (except for Cheaters, which was just outrageous). However, a strange fascination compelled me to explore the 2025 Netflix original series titled Cheater: Unfinished Business. With such an intriguing title, it’s clear that there could be all sorts of mischief (either genuine or staged for dramatic effect by producers aiming to create unmissable television). So, why not leverage my Netflix subscription to delve into this tantalizing curiosity?

Initially, I just peeked for a short while, but soon found myself hooked and watching an entire episode, then more followed, before I realized I had fallen into a binge-watching session. In this case, curiosity didn’t lead to the cat’s demise, but it certainly kept the cat up much later than it should have, engrossed in a British character trying to portray himself as an innocent victim, despite his infidelity towards his girlfriend.

I Came For The Drama And Cheaters, But Now I Need To Know How These Couples End Up

Frankly, I didn’t anticipate this, but my initial interest in watching the gauntlet was to catch cheaters being exposed. Now, I’m curious about the outcomes of these couples after the filming of Cheat: Unfinished Business ended. I still have a few episodes left before the finale and reunion special, so I know updates will be given, but I plan on sticking with it until the end. It’s certainly not what I expected!

Despite my belief that certain individuals on this show are portrayed as manipulative and unscrupulous, dumpster-divers who deceive and then psychologically control their partners, I remain hopeful for positive change in them. At this juncture of the series, some pairs appear ready and capable of making amends. However, others seem less inclined to do so.

Though Cheat: Unfinished Business Has Been Fun, I Still Feel Gross Watching It

The show Cheat: Unfinished Business has surprisingly kept me engaged so far in the series, yet I must confess it makes me uncomfortable watching it. Despite my professed fondness for trashy TV, it’s as if I accidentally walked into a therapy session and overheard a troubled couple arguing intensely. I can’t help but watch, much like a car crash, but I do feel guilty about that.

As much as it gnaws at me, I can’t help but press play on “Cheat: Unfinished Business.” I’ve got to find out for myself if this series is destined to join the pantheon of top-tier Netflix reality shows, or if it’s just another one-hit wonder.
