Be warned: This article reveals significant plot details from Avatar: Fire and Ash. If you haven’t seen the new Avatar movie yet, we recommend watching it first before reading on.
I’ve been a huge fan of Avatar since the beginning, and I’ve always loved that the story unfolded on Pandora – that incredible, vibrant moon with the Na’vi and all its amazing creatures. When I first heard they were thinking of bringing the action back to Earth in later movies, I was really against it, honestly. I thought it would lose what made Avatar special. But then I saw Avatar: Fire and Ash, and it completely changed my mind!
I recently saw a scene from James Cameron’s upcoming 2025 movie that made me reconsider what I thought about Jake Sully potentially returning to Earth before the story ends. It wasn’t the large-scale ocean battle, or another adventure with the seemingly invincible Quaritch, but a thrilling and visually stunning sequence involving the Resources Development Administration (RDA). Let me tell you what happened…

So What Are These Avatar On Earth Rumors?
For years, fans have speculated about whether the Avatar story might eventually shift its focus to humans and the Resources Development Administration (RDA). This idea seems to have originated with comments made by the late Jon Landau, James Cameron’s producer and close friend, in an interview with Gizmodo before the release of Avatar: The Way of Water in 2022. He explained that:
In the fifth movie, the story takes us to Earth with the goal of broadening perspectives – specifically, to show Neytiri what life is like there. The film emphasizes that Earth isn’t solely defined by the RDA corporation, and just like people aren’t defined by a single group, not all humans are villains. Similarly, not all Na’vi are perfect. The filmmakers want to reveal this complexity to Neytiri, demonstrating that there’s good and bad in every group.
I’ve been following the Avatar news, and while they’ve hinted at maybe bringing the story to Earth someday, they’re still keeping pretty tight-lipped about Avatar 5. We’ve heard whispers about Neytiri potentially visiting our planet, which sounds amazing, but honestly, details are still incredibly scarce. They’re not giving away much about where the story is actually headed, even without an official title yet!

The Big RDA Base Sequence In Avatar: Fire & Ash Changed My Mind For One Major Reason
I have a real weakness for large-scale, gritty industrial environments in movies, especially action films. Some of the most iconic action sequences take place in places like factories, bases, or foundries – think of James Cameron’s films like The Terminator, Aliens, and Terminator 2. These settings just look amazing, and that’s definitely true of the movie Fire and Ash as well.
The vibrant and imaginative scenes of the Sully family soaring through Pandora on creatures, and the bustling marketplace with its hot air balloons, were visually stunning – James Cameron truly excels at creating these worlds. But what really captivated me was the thrilling rescue mission to save Jake and Spyder after they were taken by the RDA.
I kept envisioning this franchise taking place on a devastated, polluted Earth, and that idea really stuck with me. I’m imagining a gritty, realistic future where everything has fallen apart – a world that’s dirty, oppressive, and intensely hot. Think massive machinery, huge vehicles, and powerful equipment everywhere. That’s the kind of setting I’d love to see explored in a movie.

I Also Want To See How Humans On Earth React To The Na’vi
I’m really hoping the rumors about Avatar 5 are true, mostly because I loved how James Cameron created a realistic, gritty Earth in the films. But it’s not just that. Fire and Ash finally showed us how regular humans – not just the RDA leaders – view Jake Sully and see him as a traitor for choosing to live with the Na’vi.
Throughout the story, the workers, scientists, and support staff at the base stared at Jake – who was kept in a glass enclosure – as if he were a sideshow attraction. They were morbidly curious and fascinated by his transformation into a Na’vi, which added another dimension to the narrative. It would be compelling to see this explored further, particularly with the Na’vi themselves reacting with fear and confusion to the advanced technology of Earth.
Imagine billboards, huge screens, and constant text messages – all spreading RDA messaging. This widespread, intense campaign could really revitalize the franchise and take it in a bold new direction.
Do you remember the end of Captain America: The First Avenger when Steve Rogers wakes up in modern Times Square? Imagine that feeling, but amplified by about three thousand times – that’s what it would be like.

Now I Really Want Avatar 5 (And The Rest Of The Movies) To Happen
Okay, so everyone knows the first two Avatar films were massive hits, but there’s a real sense of uncertainty around the next two. It’s gotten to the point where James Cameron is openly saying Avatar 3: The Seed Bearer really needs to perform well for the later films to get made. Honestly, I’m hoping all this anxiety is unfounded and we do get to see the rest of the story. I’m incredibly curious to see Cameron’s vision of a future Earth, and after the latest film set up some huge plot points, I’m really invested in seeing where he takes the franchise next.
With Fire and Ash receiving a Golden Globe nomination for its potential commercial success just before it came out, some people in the industry seem to believe this new installment could also be a huge box office hit – possibly earning over $2 billion. I suppose I’ll just have to wait and see if that turns out to be true.
Let’s hope Avatar: The Last Airbender: Fire and Ash is a big success in theaters, and that the series keeps going long enough to show us what happens when the Na’vi eventually visit Earth.
