Get ready to return to the magical world of Oz! The movie Wicked: For Good arrives in theaters in just under a month, but if you can’t wait, there’s good news! NBC is broadcasting a special event called Wicked: One Wonderful Night, featuring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.

I’ve loved “Wicked” for as long as I can remember! Growing up, I practically wore out my CD of the original cast recording, especially belting out songs like “Defying Gravity,” “No Good Deed,” and “For Good” along with Idina Menzel as Elphaba. I listened to it so much that it got scratched and started skipping – “Dancing Through Life” always ended up sounding like “Dan Through If”! It was a testament to how much I adored the show.

I always dreamed of seeing Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth sing the songs that helped me through my teenage years, and I’m a little envious of my younger self right now! I just witnessed a new group of incredibly talented musical theatre performers breathe fresh life into those same songs – and I’m excited to share that you can experience it too.

I ‘Couldn’t Be Happier’ To Hear Grande Debut Her Version Of “Thank Goodness”

Honestly, Ariana Grande was born to play Glinda. From the moment she appeared floating down in a bubble and hit those incredible high notes in the first movie – and she does it again in this one! – it’s amazing to think she had to sing four songs just to get the part. She was perfect for it from the very beginning.

If you weren’t sure Ariana Grande was perfect for the role of Glinda, hearing her sing “Thank Goodness” will prove it. She doesn’t just sing the song well—she truly embodies the character, drawing you into Glinda’s story from the very beginning.

While Grande shines in her role, the casting of Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero is absolutely perfect – you couldn’t ask for a better fit.

Jonathan Bailey is currently very busy with other projects. While filming Wicked: Part I, he was already working on two others, and it seems his schedule hasn’t eased up. Fans hoping to see him as Fiyero in this special will have to wait, but the comedic performances from Bowen Yang, Ethan Slater, and Marissa Bode are just as delightful as Bailey’s charm.

While their performance isn’t flawless, they deliver an incredibly energetic and memorable performance, always standing out as a favorite part of the show. But keep an eye out for a rising talent who’s about to captivate everyone and become the star of the night.

“Popular” is about to become even more popular than before.

“Popular” is essential to any performance of Wicked, and I was hooked from the moment I first heard Ariana Grande sing it in the show’s trailer. This version of the song, though, has a surprising change. I don’t want to spoil it, but let’s just say Grande sings it to a different character than Cynthia Erivo, and she certainly succeeds in making them popular.

This event is full of amazing moments, and this is just a small preview! I haven’t even talked about Cynthia Erivo’s incredible vocal run – you know the one! – or the fresh spin they put on the iconic ‘hair toss.’ And get this: they showed us a glimpse of some brand-new songs, but they were so hush-hush we didn’t even get to hear them at the show.

Watching this special was a truly positive experience for me, and I think it will be for you too. It airs on NBC Thursday, November 6th at 8 p.m. Eastern and Pacific time.
