As a huge fan of Denise Welch, I can only imagine how devastating it must have been for her to fall victim to such a cruel scam. Having followed her career and her life experiences through the years, I feel a deep connection to her and her story.

Denise Welch admitted feeling foolish after scammers swindled £2,000 from her account using a deceitful scheme.

OnMonday’s Good Morning Britain, the Loose Women celebrity, aged 66, shared her experience of falling victim to a phone scam. She cautioned ITV audience against making similar errors.

I was absolutely ecstatic and on cloud nine when I received a call that I believed was from the Barclays fraud squad, as if my luck had finally turned around after years of being an avid fan. But oh, how wrong I was! In my frenzy to do the right thing and protect my hard-earned savings, I unwittingly handed over thousands to a cunning impersonator. The TV star’s revelation left me utterly shocked and dismayed – a stark reminder that not all phone calls are as they seem.

To Ranvir Singh and Ed Balls, Denise shared that she was occupied when the call from Barclays came in and, trusting the authenticity of the call based on the caller ID, aimed to address the matter promptly.

I remember the feeling of excitement and anticipation as I prepared for a show, specifically “Calendar Girls: The Musical,” a few years ago. It was pre-pandemic times, and the energy backstage was electric. But there were rules we had to follow – no looking at our phones or taking personal calls during rehearsals to maintain focus.

“I stepped outside to answer a call, only to be told it was the fraud squad on the line. They informed me that suspicious transactions had been detected on my card and they intended to halt any further fraudulent activity.”

“I was certain I was speaking with my bank’s fraud unit when I received the call, as it appeared on my phone under the label ‘Barclays’.”

She confessed that she hadn’t realized her error until the fifth time the man contacted her.

She shared: “I had conversations with a man named Michael. I recall him as quite charming. Over the course of approximately four phone calls, I provided all the necessary details.”

I provided my complete name, birthdate, residential address with postal code, and my mother’s last name without any hesitation upon seeing the label of “Barclays.”

Over the course of roughly four conversations, Michael and I had grown extremely close friends. He mentioned that the task at hand was more complex than anticipated, as this could turn out to be a larger deceit than initially assumed.

Based on my personal experience and understanding of the situation, it seems that the speaker is implying that the listener or viewer will likely be expressing disbelief or criticism at this point in the conversation or presentation. The phrase “that’s on you” suggests that any mistakes or misunderstandings that occur from this point forward will be the responsibility of the person being addressed.

Based on my personal experiences and interactions with various financial institutions, I can understand why you wouldn’t casually give out your PIN number. However, during a recent conversation with Barclays’ fraud department, I found myself inadvertently disclosing this sensitive information. I was taken aback by the situation and felt a pang of unease.

“I found out that someone had made a duplicate of my credit card, and before we could stop them, they had withdrawn approximately £2,000 from my account.”

If I had been at home instead of at work when this occurred, it might not have happened. However, since I was at work, I felt compelled to have it resolved right away. I now feel somewhat foolish about the situation.

According to Denise, it’s best to keep your information private unless you have complete certainty.

When someone calls me, I always answer, no matter if it’s a familiar or new voice. I ask, “Is there something you’d like to share with me?” or simply, “Hi, it’s nice to hear from you.”

Based on EE’s findings, approximately 40% of crimes in the UK involve fraud, and nearly every phone user experiences unwanted calls regularly.

Approximately fifteen million questionable calls and messages are intercepted and prevented by the phone network from reaching their intended recipients.

In the initial half of 2024, EE thwarted over 84 million fraudulent attempts – double the amount recorded during the same span in 2023.

After hearing the exciting news that Denise had confirmed her son Matt Healey’s engagement to model Gabbriette Bechtel following their romantic whirlwind, I couldn’t help but feel elated as a devoted fan.

Five months into my relationship with Gabbriette, I can honestly say that we’re deeply happy together. She brings so many wonderful qualities to our family that I could only have wished for in a daughter-in-law.

However, the surprise came when I noticed a picture of her adorable pet rat peeking out from her hands in another post. It was certainly an unusual addition to the glamorous wedding preparations, but it spoke volumes about Gabbriette’s unique personality and the depth of her character. Overall, this unexpected discovery added a delightful twist to my morning routine and provided a reminder that everyone has their quirks and hidden gems waiting to be discovered.

Matty’s mother happily shared that she had a black diamond ring specially made for him with great excitement.

Gabbriette strongly suggested they will get married in June, following their rapid nine-month romance with the 1975 singer.
