I Felt Like a Ghost of My Former Self
Alison Brahe has opened up about her horror journey with menopause.
In the 1990s, a model known for her “It Girl” status, currently wedded to actor Cameron Daddo, admits she felt lost as she grappled with signs of approaching menopause.
‘It crashed in like a storm,’ the 53-year-old mother-of-three told Daily Telegraph this week.
The model admitted she felt like a phantom version of her former self, battling emotions such as anger, tears, detachment, and a diminished sense of patience.
Speaking candidly, the ex-model and podcast host revealed that her entry into menopause (perimenopause), signifying the conclusion of her reproductive phase, had been the most challenging health hurdle she’s faced in her lifetime.
On Wednesday, Alison shared in the Daily Telegraph about her distressing ordeal. She expressed feeling utterly helpless and isolated, to the point where she broke down in tears while taking a shower.

She expressed that perimenopause turned out to be the most significant health challenge for her, something she hadn’t anticipated, but as a woman of her age, she wished she had been better informed about the potential health implications it could bring.
‘The silence around menopause made it worse.’
As I navigated through this hormonal transition, I discovered an incredible strength within myself. I began to tune into my body, acknowledging and addressing its needs more intentionally.
Alison, one of the co-hosts of the Heart of It podcast alongside her husband Cameron Daddo for 30 years, shared that she no longer stresses about alterations in her looks, such as weight fluctuations, wrinkles, and cellulite.
In 2022, Alison has already had many conversations on this topic, as she’s the author of the non-fiction book titled “Queen Menopause.
She is also the co-founder of Aviiana, a new wellness program for peri- and menopausal women.
In the ’80s and ’90s, Alison ranked among Australia’s leading fashion models. Notably, she graced the cover of the teen publication Dolly on numerous occasions.
It comes after Alison’s husband, Cameron, recently opened up about a harrowing brush with death.

The 60-year-old Australian actor shared a harrowing story about a CT scan for a stomach problem uncovering three undetected aneurysms, which might not have been found until after his death.
The beloved television star now has a whole new perspective on his recent milestone birthday.
As a seasoned lifestyle guide, I found myself in an unexpected situation recently – a seemingly minor tummy trouble that I initially thought was just a common parasitic issue at the ripe age of 60. However, upon seeking medical advice, I soon realized it warranted more attention.
Little did he know, the routine scan would uncover a ticking time bomb within his body.
In his conversation with The Daily Telegraph last month, Daddo shared that hearing the grim prognosis from his medical expert was quite a jolt.
They mentioned that if they hadn’t discovered them when they did, it might have been too late; the discovery could only have been made after their death.
In the heart of winter last February, I faced a challenging surgical procedure to implant stents, specially crafted to enhance blood circulation from my heart to my lower limbs. The purpose was to alleviate any complications related to poor blood flow in those areas.
At first, it was intended to be a three-part stent operation; however, things took an unexpected turn, and the situation required ten stents instead. This prolonged ordeal left the actor critically ill and under close watch in the intensive care unit for multiple days.

‘There was a scare last year – and I mean classic timing,’ Daddo revealed.
‘It was detected by accident.’
A well-known actor revealed that multiple aneurysms were found in his thigh arteries (femoral), which came to light during a CT scan performed for an unconnected stomach problem.
This tummy issue was caused by ingesting contaminated beach water, leading to a parasite infection.
He mentioned that he didn’t have any specific reasons to visit the doctor, except for experiencing abdominal discomfort – which turned out to be due to a parasite that he contracted by consuming contaminated water at the beach.
‘My general practitioner, kind soul that he is, diagnosed something and referred me to a specialist. The specialist warned that I needed immediate treatment for the aneurysms as there was a significant risk that I might not survive the upcoming year if left untreated.’
For the past 33 years, Cameron and his spouse Alison, parents of their now-grown children (all three), have walked down life’s pathway hand in hand.
As a devoted fan, I’m always thrilled to see the charismatic figure who graces Luxury Escapes. He’s a versatile actor who has captured my admiration with his captivating performances in films such as Inland Empire and TV shows like Home and Away, Hope Island, and NCIS: Los Angeles.
