Hulu’s The X-Files Finds Danielle Deadwyler’s Partner for TV Show Reboot

Ryan Coogler‘s X-Files reboot for Hulu has found its pair of lead stars.

A new version of The X-Files is in the works, first revealed in March 2023. The original series aired on Fox from 1993 to 2002, with a revival running from 2016 to 2018, totaling 11 seasons. While it’s unknown how the new show will relate to the original, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are not anticipated to reprise their roles as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.

Who will co-lead Hulu’s X-Files reboot with Danielle Deadwyler?

So, it looks like Ryan Coogler is heading up the X-Files reboot, but with a fresh start! They’ve cast Danielle Deadwyler, and now, according to Deadline, Himesh Patel is joining her as the other lead. The really interesting thing is they won’t be playing Mulder and Scully – they’re creating entirely new characters for this series. It’s a whole new take on the X-Files universe, which I think is a smart move.

Himesh Patel is an actor most famous for playing Tamwar Masood on the British soap opera EastEnders. He’s also appeared in several popular films, including Yesterday, Don’t Look Up, and Greedy People. More recently, he starred in Christopher Nolan’s film Tenet and will be in Nolan’s new movie, The Odyssey, coming out this summer. Patel is also set to reprise his role as John Watson in Enola Holmes 3, alongside Henry Cavill as Sherlock Holmes.

Ryan Coogler is working on a new version of The X-Files and will direct the first episode. The series will follow two FBI agents – both highly accomplished but with very different personalities – who team up when they’re assigned to a previously closed unit that investigates strange and unexplainable events.

Hulu has ordered a pilot for a new version of The X-Files. Jennifer Yale will lead the show as showrunner and executive producer, working alongside original creator Chris Carter, Michael Coogler, Sev Ohanian, and Zinzi Coogler. Casting will be overseen by Francine Maisler, who previously collaborated with Coogler on the award-winning film, Sinners.

The original X-Files series is available to stream on Hulu.
