Hulu technical glitches mar Oscars’ streaming debut for many viewers

33,000 users encountered problems logging into Hulu, a streaming service owned by Walt Disney Co., as the 97th Academy Awards were about to start at 4 p.m. on Sunday. According to Down Detector, an app that monitors outages, these login issues persisted for over half of the three-and-a-half hour show for some users.

Once the initial issue was resolved, a multitude of other issues suddenly disrupted the broadcast just moments before Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan announced the evening’s last award, causing interruptions in many viewers‘ streams.

In the end, it was “Anora,” the cherished indie film by critics, that took home the award for Best Picture. Interestingly, its director and scriptwriter, Sean Baker, made history by receiving a total of four Oscars for the very same movie.
