Hugh Jackman Stars in A24’s Dark Robin Hood Reimagining: The Death of Robin Hood

Hugh Jackman is partnering with A24 for a fresh take on the Robin Hood story. This new adaptation, titled The Death of Robin Hood, will be a darker and more modern reimagining of the well-known legend.

A24 has released a new trailer featuring Hugh Jackman as Robin Hood, but this isn’t the familiar version of the story. The film is set in the past and shows a troubled Robin Hood haunted by his violent history. After being wounded in a fight, he’s offered a chance at forgiveness and a new life by a mysterious woman.

Michael Sarnoski, the writer and director of A Quiet Place: Day One, explains that his take on Robin Hood explores the character grappling with his legend. He describes the historical Robin Hood as a violent and flawed individual who is now witnessing the creation of the heroic folklore surrounding him, and is conflicted about being seen as a hero when he knows his true nature.

A24 released a poster featuring Hugh Jackman as a battle-worn Robin Hood, complete with a bow and arrows. The tagline, “he was no hero,” hints at a fresh and unconventional take on the classic story.

Hugh Jackman will star in The Death of Robin Hood alongside Bill Skarsgård (known for It and Nosferatu), Jodie Comer (28 Years Later, The Last Duel), and Noah Jupe (Hamnet, A Quiet Place). While the specific roles haven’t been announced, Jackman will play the main character, and Jodie Comer is expected to play a pivotal role offering him redemption.

Hugh Jackman is famous for playing Wolverine in several X-Men films, as well as starring in The Greatest Showman and Les Misérables. He also has new projects in the works, including The Sheep Detectives and Apostle Paul.

While there’s no confirmed release date yet, A24’s new, darker take on the Robin Hood story, titled The Death of Robin Hood, is currently planned for release in 2026. Filming is expected to take place primarily in Northern Ireland.
