Hugh Jackman shares birthday tribute to Deadpool co-star Ryan Reynolds’ mum after his own mother abandoned him at eight years old

In reading about Hugh Jackman’s life journey, I find myself deeply moved by his strength and resilience. Born into a challenging family situation, Jackman had to navigate the loss of his mother at a young age and the absence of a supportive network around him. Yet, he has managed not only to become one of the most successful actors in Hollywood but also to find peace with his past.

Australian actor Hugh Jackman has disclosed the strong connection he nurtures with Ryan Reynolds‘ mom, forged from shared experiences, since Jackman was himself abandoned by his mother during childhood.

On Wednesday, the 56-year-old actor shared an Instagram post as a tribute to Tammy, who is the mom of his good friend and acting partner Ryan.

Hugh posted a series of pictures featuring himself, the birthday woman, and Ryan (age 48), following his recent disclosure about undergoing therapy to cope with the emotional impact of his mother leaving him at the tender age of eight.

Maintaining their age-old tradition of joking around, Ryan retorted by saying, “Heretic!” and then posted a counterargument on his personal Instagram Stories.

In a re-post by Reynolds, he clarified that he is not Jackman’s substitute in case of emergency. Instead, his role is to provide necessary organs for transplant if Jackman ever experiences appendicitis or a problem with her tonsils. He is prepared to step up when needed.

On Wednesday, Ryan too shared a heartfelt message for his mother on her special birthday, expressing it thusly, “Celebrating 80 years with Tam Tam! Wishing my dear mom a most joyful birthday.

In an endearing twist, the actor from Free Guy posted a compilation of amusing incidents they’ve shared, accompanied by this remark: “I can still vividly recall the moment I first saw her. One evening, I was relaxing in the backyard under the glow of a flashlight, drifting off to sleep. All of a sudden, she popped out from the shed, catching me completely off guard.

Later on, I pedaled my bicycle, speeding off from our arid desert dwelling and right into a lush rainforest that miraculously thrives mere city blocks distant, as Ryan went on to explain.

In time, Mom let out an exasperated sigh and simply said, “Enough,” before we abruptly soared into the sky. She murmured, “Elliot” occasionally with a soft, troubled voice that was quite disturbing.

Moving forward in the storyline of E.T.: The Extraterrestrial from 1982, he penned: ‘Eventually, she made her way back into her spaceship and departed Earth for good, despite my encounters with her on no less than four occasions today.’

‘Happy Birthday mom. You are the best mom,’ Ryan concluded on a sweeter note.

The acknowledgment follows Jackman’s disclosure that he began therapy sessions last year during the filming of his latest movie, “The Son,” where he portrays the father of a suicidal teenager. Therapy was available to the entire cast given the heavy and somber nature of the film.

He mentioned that it’s essential to have someone you can confide in fully. This need is important in various aspects, whether it comes from friends or acquaintances.

‘Having someone really smart, who’s actually a little bit removed from your world can be really helpful. I’ve found it really helpful.’

Although she abandoned him as a child, Hugh revealed why he’d ‘made peace’ with his mother. 

He shared with Who magazine that, since his birth, she had been dealing with a tough time. Following his birth, she was admitted to the hospital due to postpartum depression.

Adding five children to the situation made things even more challenging, considering she had recently moved from England and lacked local support. Combined with the fact that her partner worked long hours, it becomes clear that, as parents, we are bound to commit errors.

I, being a die-hard fan, can’t help but marvel at the profound impact having kids with my ex-wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, has had on me. It’s as if it opened up a new dimension of empathy and comprehension, enabling me to forge connections, especially with my mother, that I never thought possible before.

At some stage in life, it’s important to avoid placing responsibility for your feelings and hardships solely on others.

Hugh and his ex Deborra-Lee, 67, are parents to two adopted children, Oscar, 22, and Ava, 17.
