Hugh Jackman Is Unrecognizable in Official Trailer for New Retelling of Legendary Hero The Death of Robin Hood

Even with his upcoming return as Wolverine in the 2024 film Deadpool & Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds continues to choose compelling projects. In addition to his recently released and critically praised musical, Song Sung Blue, he’s taking on another exciting role:

He teamed up with A24 and the director of Pig, Michael Sarnoski, to play the iconic outlaw in a fresh new way. While the movie’s release date hasn’t been announced yet, A24 recently released the official trailer, which you can watch below.

The new trailer introduces a Robin Hood story that’s different from the usual – this time, he’s an older man, not a young adventurer. Along with the trailer, A24 released the first official poster, which includes the intriguing message, “He was no hero.”

After a life filled with crime and violence, Robin Hood faces his past while clinging to life after a brutal fight. He believes it might be his final battle, but a mysterious woman offers him a chance to be saved.

Hugh Jackman leads the cast of A24’s new film, and he’s joined by Jodie Comer, known for Killing Eve; Bill Skarsgard, who appears in Nosferatu and It; Noah Jupe from A Quiet Place; and Murray Bartlett of The White Lotus.

Sarnoski, the director known for the critically praised films Pig (2021) and A Quiet Place: Day One (2024), wrote and directed this thriller. Filming for The Death of Robin Hood occurred in Northern Ireland.

Sarnoski described his updated take on the Robin Hood story, explaining that the character is a flawed and even monstrous figure who committed terrible acts. He’s now grappling with the legend that’s grown around him – how it feels to be seen as a hero when he knows the truth about his past.
