Hugh Jackman addressed the tragic shooting at Bondi Beach that occurred on Sunday afternoon, where at least 16 people were killed by two gunmen.
The 57-year-old Australian actor shared that he was deeply saddened and offered his condolences to those affected and their families.
It’s incredibly upsetting because this is where I live, so it really affects me. We’re seeing similar situations happen everywhere, and it’s just heartbreaking,” he shared in an interview with Fox 5 DC.
It really hits me hard, especially thinking about the families and everyone in the community who are going through this – it’s my home, and seeing them hurt is just awful.
Honestly, I can’t even escape it. I fell asleep last night with articles about Brown University filling my head, and the first thing I did this morning was start reading about Bondi. It’s just… crushing me, you know? I’m completely heartbroken.
Look, I’ve been following the conversation, and it’s understandable why people were upset with Hugh. He has a beautiful home in Bondi, and fans felt he should have spoken out about the recent, terrible attack on social media. It just seemed like a natural expectation, and his silence really stood out to a lot of people.

Someone criticized the Instagram post, writing, ‘You’re Australian, but you haven’t commented on the recent terror attack at Bondi Beach. That’s disappointing.’
I honestly can’t believe it! How could anyone not talk about the horrific shooting in Bondi, Australia? Sixteen innocent people were killed – a truly antisemitic attack, and just a senseless tragedy. And to think, a child was among those lost… it’s just devastating and needs to be acknowledged!
Even though I don’t have any connection to the Jewish community, this situation is deeply upsetting. It feels like if this were happening in the United States, there would be much more attention and support.
A tragic attack occurred on Sunday at a popular Australian landmark while hundreds were celebrating the first day of Hanukkah at a Chanukah by the Sea event.
Naveed Akram, 24, and his father, Sajid Akram, 50, reportedly used powerful military-style weapons to shoot at people – including residents, tourists, and families – from a footbridge.
I can’t stop thinking about Naveed. I heard he’s still in the hospital, and apparently, the police are guarding him! It’s just… awful. They shot him, can you believe it? They say he’s in a coma, but doctors are hopeful he’ll pull through. I’m just praying he wakes up soon, it’s all I can do right now.
His father Sajid, a licensed firearms holder, was shot dead by police

The attack at Bondi Beach has resulted in 16 deaths, including a child, making it one of the most tragic days in the nation’s history.
Nine of the 15 innocent people who lost their lives have been identified.
The youngest victim was 10-year-old Matilda.
Among those killed were 41-year-old Rabbi Eli Schlanger, originally from Britain, and Dan Elkayam, a 27-year-old French citizen. Alex Kleytman, a Holocaust survivor, and Tibor Weitzen, a devoted husband and father, also perished. Reuven Morrison, who worked at the Wellington Street synagogue, 82-year-old Slovak citizen Marika Pogany, and retired NSW Police detective sergeant Peter Meagher were also among the victims.
A memorial service on Monday night became heated when hecklers booed and shouted at Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke.
