Hugh Grant’s “incredibly tense” horror movie tops streaming chart after surprise Prime Video release

You now have the opportunity to watch Hugh Grant deliver a memorable, unsettling acting feat from his latest works, as the philosophical horror film “Heretic” is now available for streaming on Prime Video.

In the movie, Grant plays the role of Mr. Reed, a potential convert to their faith and a knowledgeable figure in religion, who invites two young Mormon missionaries, Sister Barnes (portrayed by Sophie Tatcher from “Yellowjackets”) and Sister Paxton (Chloe East from “The Fabelmans”), into his home.

The two ladies are completely clueless about the situation they find themselves in, as their discussion with this man, who might not even be using his genuine name, takes a turn for the complex, involving ethical dilemmas, religious debates, and utter fear.

The movie, penned and helmed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods (similar to “A Quiet Place”), has surged in popularity on Amazon Prime Video since it was included in their UK and Ireland library on May 31.

As a gaming enthusiast, I can confidently say that the movie “Heretic” has been an absolute triumph, both critically and commercially, under the banner of A24. This film has catapulted itself into the top 10 highest-grossing productions for A24, and it’s easy to see why. The self-contained location was brilliantly utilized, and Grant’s chilling portrayal as the villain left audiences spellbound.

The movie has been given the “Fresh” certificate on Rotten Tomatoes based on 281 critiques, with a rating of 91%. Nearly everyone who reviewed it was highly impressed by Grant’s captivating portrayal of a villain.

The four-star review in Empire describes the movie as a thought-provoking thriller that keeps you on edge, and they emphasize that Daniel Craig delivers an exceptional performance in it. However, viewers should be aware that this film deviates significantly from the romantic comedies that Craig has previously been associated with in his acting career.

The magazine, Empire, implies that after watching Notting Hill, you’ll see it in a completely new light. That suggestion alone should be enough to entice you to watch the film.

Previously, it was disclosed that Grant had shot a different conclusion for “Heretic”. We’re keeping that detail under wraps for those who haven’t seen the movie yet.

Heretic is streaming on Prime Video in the UK and Ireland.

The debut physical magazine from Digital Spy is out now! Purchase the British Comedy Legends issue at your local newsstand or online, currently available for only £3.99.
