Huge popstar looks unrecognisable in unseen video performing at music festival 16 years ago – can you guess who she is?

She is a megastar who shaped many fans’ 2024 summer.

Meanwhile, the freshly married pop sensation has solidified her stage identity and appearance. However, her appearance in 2009 was strikingly distinct from what it is now.

16 years old at the time, old videos reveal the current 33-year-old celebrity entertaining a small crowd in a rather eccentric costume that she wore back then.

Or:

At age 16, vintage clips display our present-day 33-year-old star donning an unusual outfit and performing before a limited audience.

Both sentences convey the original message in a natural and easy-to-read manner.

Dressed in a tattered pink wig and black outfit, the multiple Grammy and Brit Award recipient was filmed by an attendee using a camcorder.

The location for the event was a modest tent set up on the athletic grounds of St Mary’s Catholic Secondary School in Bishop’s Stortford, quite distinct from the grandeur of the Glastonbury festival stage.

So who is this unrecognisable pop icon?

It’s Charli XCX!

In the video posted by journalist James Burton on Facebook, she could be noticed moving playfully across the stage while wearing an unusual hat.

The accompanying caption reveals that I found this video of Charli XCX performing at the Stortford Music Festival back in 2009, by rummaging through my old hard drives.

In a heartfelt conversation, I recall the instant when I laid eyes on her at the 2009 Bishop’s Stortford Festival. She made quite an entrance in an eccentric, attention-grabbing ensemble of striped tights and a sleek black leotard. The sight remains vivid even to this day.

In simpler terms, ‘She wore a vibrant neon green scarf and sported bright pink hair. A large plastic replica of a cake adorned her. Since her performance started early in the day, she entertained a relatively small audience made up mostly of older people who seemed quite puzzled by the spectacle…’

However, it was remarkable to see her behaving as if she were the main act at a grand music festival, despite the fact that it was merely a small community event held on a school’s playing field.

As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but share that I trailed her meteoric rise in the music world. Having interviewed her for our local paper and attending one of her initial performances, I found myself following her journey from then on.

He commented on her success: ‘I find it terrific that she fulfilled her childhood aspiration, and it was delightful to witness the beginning of this journey. She remains humble throughout. I hope she enjoyed pursuing her dream and sincerely wish her continued success. She’s been remarkable.’

Shortly before James shared the footage, Charli tied the knot.

On the 19th of July, the bride and the drummer from The 1975 tied the knot at Hackney Town Hall. It’s rumored that they plan for another wedding ceremony in Sicily later on this summer.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’ve experienced an extraordinary journey that started on the playgrounds of Hertfordshire schools and soared into realms previously unimagined, astonishing both myself and my admirers.

Starting from 2008, she started sharing her songs on Myspace. Later on, she got involved in London’s club scene and eventually secured a recording deal with Asylum Records in 2010. Throughout the early 2010s, she put out a string of singles and mixtapes.

2012 saw her making an appearance in the hit song “I Love It” by Swedish duo Icona Pop, which marked her first number-one single in the UK and gained worldwide popularity. However, her 2013 debut studio album, True Romance, received generally favorable reviews but fell short of commercial success.

Although initial setbacks were encountered, her most recent album, “Brat,” launched last year, has proven to be her most significant achievement yet, consistently earning the title of Album of the Year.

The released single “Apple” from the record climbed into the UK’s top 10 charts, while her remix album featured a collaboration with Billie Eilish titled “Guess,” which also made it to the top 10.

At the 67th annual Grammy Awards, she received eight nominations for her album “Brat” and its songs, with categories such as Album of the Year. She ended up winning three awards: Best Dance Pop Recording for “Von Dutch”, Best Dance/Electronic Album, and Best Recording Package.
