HoYoverse finally lifts the curtain on Varsapura with a stunning half-hour gameplay demo reveal

Story Highlights

  • Varsapura’s 31-minute gameplay follows the protagonist’s SEAL entry test.
  • Characters such as Sayuki, Simmons and Mr. Shadow make an appearance.
  • HoYoverse quietly teased this project for months with trademark and social accounts.

HoYoverse has revealed its latest project, and it’s called Varsapura! After teasing the game with trademarks and online hints for months, they’ve released a detailed 31-minute gameplay demo, confirming what fans had been speculating about.

Varsapura Gameplay Demo opens with the protagonist’s mission to join SEAL

The scene begins on a rainy day, with raindrops falling on the street. We quickly meet the main character, who is applying to become a member of SEAL – the Shadow Emergency Alliance. She’s driven by a desire to pay forward a life-saving act; a police officer once rescued her, and she wants to dedicate herself to helping others in the same way.

This gameplay demo showcases Varsapura, a new experience from HoYoverse. It features footage recorded during live operations (using the codename RTX4090 for the system). The footage is part of an internal directive – specifically, 047-EX – from SEAL (Shadow Emergency Alliance). If you notice anything unusual or disruptive while watching, please report it.

After she signs the agreement, Officers Simmons and Sayuki from the SEAL team put her through a challenging test. She has to defeat shadowy figures and save people to demonstrate she’s ready to join them. She succeeds, and things start to change.

The demo introduces Mr. Shadow, a puzzling character who appears to be key to the plot. It then expands to reveal a much bigger world. Players join Sayuki, the main character, in fast-paced combat against monsters, and as the sun sets, they relax with cans of Americano.

The new game immediately sparked conversation among players, with many noticing the map is strikingly similar to Singapore. The demo footage appears to show a drive from Bencoolen to Dempsey Hill, and the roads and buildings are remarkably detailed and true to life.

The game has a rich backstory with intriguing concepts. For example, characters experience something called “mindrotting,” which appears to be linked to shadowy outbreaks. Throughout the game, the player is also aided by an AI companion named DAWN.

Okay, so I watched the gameplay video, and it looks like this game is definitely built for PC. What really caught my eye was how you can switch between different playstyles – I saw a lot of sneaking around, but also some seriously powerful heavy attacks. And the coolest part? You don’t just control one character! The demo showed you swapping between all three, and it looked super smooth.

Varsapura’s trademark and development were revealed back in July

Those who have been following HoYoverse for a while probably already knew about Varsapura. The company trademarked the name and set up social media accounts for it back in July 2025. I recall the name being inspired by the Sanskrit words for ‘rain’ (Varsha) and ‘city’ (Pura), and with rain being featured at the beginning of the demo, ‘City of Rain’ feels like a fitting description.

Just to clarify, this game is different from the fantasy MMORPG recently hinted at using Unreal Engine 5. However, both games are part of a larger collection of upcoming projects.

Currently, we don’t know what’s next for this – whether it’s a test version, launch details, or even which devices it will be available on. We expect a typical rollout process with testing phases, pre-registration, a soft launch, and then the full release, and this could take a while. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
