How to watch the US Open 2024 tennis tournament live
As a seasoned sports enthusiast with decades of watching tournaments under my belt, I can confidently say that this announcement is music to my ears! The US Open returning to Sky Sports is like reuniting with an old friend after a long hiatus. With Gigi Salmon at the helm and a stellar lineup of analysts, it’s going to be a treat for tennis fans across the UK.
This year’s last major tennis tournament, the US Open, is now underway, with top-tier players competing.
2021’s men’s singles competition finds defending champion Novak Djokovic, having recently triumphed at the Olympics, aiming to achieve another historical feat by further bolstering his dominance in men’s grand slam singles titles during the open era – and potentially tying for the most US Open championships with a record-equaling fifth title.
Both Carlos Alcaraz, who’s currently the world number one and has recently triumphed at Wimbledon, French Open, and Australian Open 2024, and Jannik Sinner, a future Australian Open champion, will be aiming for the title as well. Alcaraz claimed his first major title at the US Open in 2022.
As a devoted tennis enthusiast, I’m eagerly anticipating tonight’s matches! Unfortunately, Cameron Norrie and Rafael Nadal won’t be gracing the court due to their injuries. However, exciting debuts are on the horizon as Jack Draper faces off against Zhang Zhizhen at 6pm UK time. Meanwhile, Dan Evans will step onto the court around the same time for his first-round encounter with Karen Khachanov. Let’s hope for some thrilling rallies!
17-year-old tennis sensation Coco Gauff is currently trying to hold onto her US Open women’s singles championship, marking her first major tournament win. She kicked off her title defense by triumphing in a straightforward match during the initial round.
She will encounter fierce rivalry from tennis stars such as the current world number one and French Open titlist Iga Świątek, the incumbent Wimbledon winner Barbora Krejčíková, and the defending Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka.
On Tuesday evening UK time (that’s 11pm), Emma Raducanu – who won the 2021 US Open – will play her first match. Her opponent is Sofia Kenin, in a game that follows a low-key preparation for the tournament. Raducanu has been gradually coming back to tennis after undergoing significant wrist and ankle surgery last year.
I’m thrilled to share that Harriet Dart has advanced to the second round, securing a straight-set victory. As for today, I can’t wait to see Katie Boulter in action! Ranked 31st, she’ll be going head-to-head with qualifier Aliaksandra Sasnovich at 4pm. Here’s to an exciting match!
Today at approximately 5:15 PM UK time, another past US Open champion, Naomi Osaka, will take the court for her opening match. Unfortunately, Ons Jabeur has withdrawn from the tournament due to a shoulder injury, as she feels she’s not yet at the point where she can fully commit to her game and perform at her best.
Over the coming fortnight, here’s a simple guide on catching the final Grand Slam event of the tennis year live.
US Open on UK TV and streaming – how to watch
The U.S. Open tournament commenced on Monday, August 26, after the qualifying rounds. The ladies’ singles championship match will take place on Saturday, September 7, while the gentlemen’s singles finale has been arranged for Sunday, September 8.
From now until 2027, only Sky Sports has the privilege to broadcast the US Open in the UK. The primary channel for this live event is Sky Sports Tennis. If you want to stream any match, you can do so through the newly introduced Sky Sports+ service. With Sky, you’ll get to enjoy coverage of both singles and doubles tournaments.
This year, there won’t be any wheelchair tournaments because they’re conflicting with the schedule of the Paralympics. Instead, reigning US Open men’s wheelchair singles champion, Alfie Hewett, is aiming for gold at Roland-Garros. If you’d like to catch him in action, you can watch the Paralympics on Channel 4 in the UK.
Gigi Salmon will be in charge of the network’s US Open broadcast, supported by insights from well-respected analysts including Tim Henman, Johanna Konta, Feliciano Lopez, Martina Navratilova, Marion Bartoli, Anne Keothavong, Annabel Croft, Jamie Murray, Liam Broady, and Laura Robson.
Shop Sky packages
You have several choices when it comes to registering with Sky: The classic Sky Q box, the all-in-one Sky Glass TV, or the compact, satellite-dish free Sky Stream plan. With the latter options, you don’t require Sky broadband for its streaming services and can use any internet provider instead.
At present, Sky Stream is giving away a one-month free trial for their fundamental service. If you’re a new customer with Sky Stream, you’ll only need to pay £25 upfront for a 31-day Sky Sports agreement that renews automatically each month. However, the monthly cost of the service will increase to £56 after the free trial ends, as it continues on a 31-day rolling contract basis.
If you’d rather opt for a two-year commitment, you’ll only pay £20 for the Sky Sports add-on during your initial free trial period of one month with Sky Stream. After that, from the second month onwards, when the standard pricing for the basic Sky Stream package begins, you’ll pay £48 per month for the add-on.
Sky Glass pricing is currently starting at £34/month for the first three months of a 24-month contract with a £20 upfront fee, then £62/month from month four onwards. That’s for the cost of a 43″ Sky Glass TV set, Sky TV + Netflix Standard with Ads, and Sky Sports.
Currently, NOW provides access to Sky programming. For a one-day pass to Sky Sports, it costs £14.99, while a 12-month minimum subscription for Sky Sports membership will be £26 per month initially, increasing to £34.99 per month after the promotional period ends.
Sky holds broadcasting rights for multiple live sports such as certain Men’s Premier League, EFL Championship, Women’s Super League football games, and Germany’s Bundesliga (the highest tier of men’s football). Additionally, it airs Men’s Scottish Premiership football and provides coverage of the NFL. For an extra fee through Sky Box Office, they also show some boxing matches.
In various locations, you’ll find auto racing, different types of cricket like Test matches, T20, and The Hundred, some rugby union and league games, and significant golf tournaments. Sky additionally holds exclusive live broadcasting rights for Formula 1, Formula 2, and Formula 3 events, along with IndyCar races (free streaming of practice and qualifying sessions is available via IndyCar Live).
ESPN is the exclusive rights-holder for the US Open in the US.
As an avid tennis enthusiast, I’d recommend you to explore this helpful page and interactive map on the US Open website for details about the rights holders in your location.
