How to watch the 67th Grammys (and what else you need to know)
The upcoming 67th Grammy Awards are likely to be tinged with sadness on Sunday, following the tragic wildfires that hit the Los Angeles region.
Despite an exceptional year for pop music, marked by chart-topping hits and releases from established artists like Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, and the Beatles, as well as rising stars such as Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter, there’s still plenty to enjoy and discuss. Here’s a guide to help you stay informed and join the conversation.
When and where are the Grammys?
On Sunday, the Grammy Awards for the year 2023 will happen at the Crypto.com arena in downtown Los Angeles. The main broadcast begins at 5 PM local time (Pacific Time), while the opening ceremony (where most genre-specific awards are presented) commences at 12:30 PM Pacific Time.
How do I watch the Grammys?
You can catch the Grammys live on CBS television channels, or if you prefer streaming, it’s available live on Paramount+. However, if you wish to watch it at a later time on demand, you’ll require the Showtime add-on.
The Premiere ceremony will stream on live.grammy.com and the Recording Academy’s YouTube channel.
Who is performing live?
The following individuals have been confirmed: Roan, Carpenter, Billie Eilish, Charli XCX, Benson Boone, Doechii, Shakira, Teddy Swims; also booked are Cynthia Erivo, Chris Martin of Coldplay, John Legend, Lainey Wilson, Janelle Monáe, and Stevie Wonder, along with numerous others.
Who is hosting?
Comedian Trevor Noah is back for his fifth year behind the mic.
Who are the main contenders?
Beyoncé is at the forefront with 11 nominations, primarily due to her country-inspired album “Cowboy Carter,” which could potentially end her long-standing absence from album award victories. She’s the most decorated artist in Grammy history, but Charli XCX and Post Malone are close behind with eight each, while Billie Eilish and Kendrick Lamar both have seven. This year could also be significant for newcomers Roan and Carpenter, who are nominated in all four major categories, or for established Grammy favorites like Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift.
Any outliers to watch for?
At the Grammys, unexpected nods are often given to esteemed jazz artists like Jon Batiste and Herbie Hancock, so be sure to watch out for André 3000’s nomination for his flute-centric album “New Blue Sun.” The Beatles are strong contenders with their AI-aided release “Now and Then,” which is based on an old John Lennon demo from six decades ago. Additionally, Taylor Swift, who has been widely praised for her songwriting skills across four album victories, has yet to win the Grammy for Song of the Year; she might finally take home that honor with “Fortnight.
Will the Grammys address the recent wildfires?
I’m thrilled to share that this year, our event is infused with a revitalized mission: to gather extra resources for wildfire relief and pay tribute to the heroism and selflessness of the first responders who tirelessly put their lives on the line to safeguard ours. In essence, not only will The Grammys recognize the artistry and accomplishments within our musical fraternity, but it will also serve as a powerful podium to echo the indomitable spirit of resilience that is synonymous with this amazing city of Los Angeles.
The “In Memoriam” section will feature various tributes, paying homage to the late music producer Quincy Jones.
