How to watch the 2025 Oscars and everything else you need to know

The 2025 awards season is (finally) approaching its end.

On Sunday, the 97th Academy Awards ceremony will take place at the Dolby Theatre, bringing together the brightest stars of Hollywood for one final celebration of the year’s outstanding movies and acting performances.

Will Sean Baker’s “Anora” take home the top award at this year’s Oscars, as some experts predict, or will “Conclave,” which recently won at the SAG Awards, cause an upset? And how many songs from the “Wicked” soundtrack will Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande perform during the ceremony? To discover the answers, make sure to watch the 2025 Oscars.

When is the show?

On March 2nd, the venue for the 97th Academy Awards will be the Dolby Theatre in Ovation Hollywood. The event is set to commence at 4 p.m. Pacific Time.

How can I watch?

At the 2025 Oscars, you’ll be able to watch it live on ABC television and simultaneously stream it live on Hulu. If you have a cable subscription, you can utilize your login details to stream the event live on abc.com and the ABC mobile application as well.

For the very first time, the Oscars are going to be live-streamed directly on Hulu. Previously, people who’ve opted out of traditional cable services (cord-cutters) had to subscribe to platforms like Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV, or FuboTV to watch the event.

What about the red-carpet shows?

Beginning at 3:30 p.m., the pre-show event for the Oscars, titled “The Oscars Red Carpet Show,” which is hosted by Julianne Hough and Jesse Palmer, will commence on both ABC and Hulu.

If you’re eager to get a head start on the excitement, there are several pre-event options available. These include “E!’s Countdown to the Red Carpet” (on E! at 11 a.m.), “On the Red Carpet at the Oscars” (ABC at 12:30 p.m.), “Live From the Oscars” (KTLA at 1 p.m.) and “E!’s Live From the Red Carpet” (on E! at 1 p.m.). All times are in Pacific Standard Time.

Who is hosting?

2025 sees comedian and television presenter Conan O’Brien taking charge of the Oscars for the very first time. Prior to this, he had previously presented the Emmy awards in 2002 and 2006.

It appears that O’Brien has reached out to past Oscar hosts like Billy Crystal and Jimmy Kimmel as he makes preparations for the upcoming event.

He shared with People that there’s no professional stage in comedy where one doesn’t feel nervous. “The Famous Show” is indeed an iconic production, and it presents its own set of difficulties. However, he thrives on challenges.

What is nominated?

In the midst of various controversies, Emilia Pérez stands as the frontrunner with an impressive 13 nominations. Trailing closely behind are The Brutalist and Wicked, each boasting 10 nominations. All three contenders are in the running for the prestigious top prize of the evening.

The best picture contenders are:

1. “Anora” – “The Serene One”

2. “The Brutalist” – “The Harsh One”

3. “A Complete Unknown” – “One Who Remains a Mystery”

4. “Conclave” – “The Gathering” (or “The Private Meeting of Cardinals”)

5. “Dune: Part Two” – “Dune: The Sequel”

6. “Emilia Pérez” – “Emilia the Peacemaker” or “Emilia the Leader”

7. “I’m Still Here” – “I Persist” or “I Refuse to Disappear”

8. “Nickel Boys” – “The Nickel-Plated Ones” (or “Boys at the Nickel Institute”)

9. “The Substance” – “The Essence” or “The Core”

Who is performing?

Forgoing the usual custom, I’m part of the team making the decision to exclude live performances of all nominated original songs during this year’s Oscars broadcast. We’re taking a new approach to keep things fresh and exciting!

Instead, “Wicked” duo Erivo and Grande, along with Lisa from K-pop group Blackpink (and “The White Lotus”), Doja Cat, Queen Latifah, and Raye have been selected to put on a show. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences hasn’t released many details yet, but they’ve hinted that the performances will honor the filmmaking community and some of its iconic figures.

The Los Angeles Master Chorale also is set to make a special appearance.

Who is presenting?

This year’s acting award recipients, Emma Stone (“Poor Things”), Da’Vine Joy Randolph (“The Holdovers”), and stars Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. from “Oppenheimer”, are set to be some of the presenters at the 97th Academy Awards.

The list of presenters also features Halle Berry, Penélope Cruz, Elle Fanning, Whoopi Goldberg, Scarlett Johansson, John Lithgow, Amy Poehler, June Squibb, Bowen Yang, Joe Alwyn, Sterling K. Brown, Willem Dafoe, Ana de Armas, Lily-Rose Depp, Selena Gomez, Goldie Hawn, Connie Nielsen, Ben Stiller, and Oprah Winfrey. In other words, these famous individuals are among those who will be presenting.

Nick Offerman (“Parks & Recreation”) will serve as the announcer for this year’s show.
