How to watch Eurovision 2025 – BBC confirms air date and time

This May marks the arrival of Eurovision season, with the BBC ready to start the musical festivities for this year’s contest taking place in Basel.

This year marks the 69th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, gathering artists from various European countries together in Switzerland, which initially hosted the event way back in 1956.

On the 13th and 15th of May (Tuesday and Thursday), BBC One is broadcasting both semi-finals of Eurovision starting at 8 PM. The grand finale will air on Saturday, 17th May, also at 8 PM.

This version aims to make the information more conversational while keeping it clear and easy to understand.

Apart from the traditional broadcast, the competition can also be accessed on BBC iPlayer, BBC Radio 2, and BBC Sounds. Four popular hosts – Rylan, Sara Cox, Scott Mills, and Richie Anderson – will be offering their real-time commentary for the event.

This year, the United Kingdom’s contribution, the country pop band Remember Monday, is scheduled to perform during the second round of the competition.

Before this upcoming year’s Eurovision, I had the chance to sit down with Graham Norton for an intimate conversation titled “Eurovision 2025: The Time Graham Met Remember Monday“. This heartfelt chat about our journey will be broadcast on 9th May.

Among the major contenders in Eurovision, the United Kingdom automatically qualifies for the grand finale, along with France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. Additionally, Switzerland secures a spot in the finale since it is hosting this year’s event.

31 additional nations will compete to secure a place among the top 10 in each semi-final round, thereby advancing to the grand finale. In total, 26 countries will perform in the final event.

On Saturday prior to the grand finale, BBC plans to broadcast an episode of Doctor Who themed around Eurovision called “The Galactic Singing Competition”.

Penned by Juno Dawson, this special follows the Time Lord character, portrayed by Ncuti Gatwa, joining forces with new companion Belinda Chandra (played by Varada Sethu). Their journey leads them to the 803rd Interstellar Song Festival, where Rylan takes on the role of co-host.

The Intergalactic Music Competition, as the name implies, involves planets from various parts of the cosmos vying for the grand title.

In this context, “compete” means to try to win a contest and “vie” has a similar meaning. “Grand title” refers to the top prize or award in the competition. The word “cosmos” is used interchangeably with “universe.

In addition to Rylan, the show also features a special guest, Graham Norton. Joining them are actors such as Freddie Fox, Kadiff Kirwan, Charlie Condou, and Miriam-Teak Lee.

The Eurovision Song Contest airs on BBC One and iPlayer on 13 May, 15 May, and 17 May at 8pm.
