How to Unlock Hero Cards in Clash Royale

In Clash Royale, Hero Cards are unique and powerful units that can significantly impact a battle if used strategically with the right deck. However, some players find it tricky to understand how to unlock them.

This guide provides everything you need to know about Hero Cards in Clash Royale, covering how to unlock them, build decks with them, and use them effectively in battle. Here’s a detailed look.

How to Get Hero Cards in Clash Royale

How to Unlock Heroes in Clash Royale

In Clash Royale, you can summon a random Hero Card by collecting and using 200 Hero Fragments. These fragments are earned from Hero Boxes, which are special chests that give you a random number of fragments each time you open one.

You can earn Hero Boxes through limited-time events and the Battle Pass. Collect 200 Hero Fragments, and you’ll see a button to summon a Hero. Tapping this button will add a random Hero to your account – you can’t choose which one you receive.

Okay, so if I accidentally summon the same Hero twice, don’t worry, I’ll get some of my Hero Fragments and cards back as a little refund. It’s nice to know I won’t be totally wasting resources if that happens!

Like Magic Lucky Chests, Hero Boxes are rated by stars. The more stars a Hero Box has when you open it, the more Hero Fragments you’ll get.

Hero Boxes get better rewards as you progress in the game. If you reach a higher Arena level – like Arena 20 compared to Arena 15 – a Hero Box you open will contain more Hero Fragments, assuming the Hero has the same star rarity.

The total accumulated Hero Fragments can be viewed in the Collection tab in the Card Forms section.

Using Heroes in Clash Royale

To use Heroes in your deck, you’ll place them in the designated Hero Slot. You can easily spot these slots in the deck builder – they have a yellow border. The first Hero Slot becomes available when you reach Arena 15 (5000 Trophies), and you’ll unlock a second one at Arena 20 (10,000 Trophies).

After you unlock and add a Hero Card to your deck, the image on the card will automatically update to reflect that it’s been unlocked.

When you play a Hero card during a match, their Hero form appears right away. Unlike Evolutions, you don’t need to play the normal version of the card first. To use a Hero’s special ability, simply tap the ability icon on screen – it will cost Elixir to activate.

Clash Royale Heroes Explained

Hero and Champion cards both use the same card slots in your deck. You can only include either two Heroes, or two Champions, but not a mix of three. However, you can build a deck with one Hero and one Champion.

Hero Cards start at the same level as the regular version of that unit and don’t require separate leveling. For example, if you have a Giant at level 16 and create a Hero Giant using 200 Hero Fragments, the Hero Giant will automatically be level 16 when you add it to your deck.

If you’re using a Hero version of a card, you won’t be able to play its evolved form during the match, even if you’ve unlocked the evolution. For example, if you put a Knight in your Hero slot, you can’t use its evolved version, even if you have the evolved Knight unlocked.
