The movie “How to Train Your Dragon” has secured a fresh streaming platform in the United Kingdom, just before the live-action adaptation hits the screens.
Yesterday, the beloved 2010 animated DreamWorks hit was broadcast on ITV1, and can now be streamed on ITVX.
This indicates that UK residents can stream the movie without charge. However, there are advertisements in the free version. If you prefer an ad-free experience, you can upgrade to ITVX Premium for £5.99 per month or £59.99 annually.
The movie tells the story of a clumsy teenager named Hiccup (played by Jay Baruchel), who is a viking. Unlike the rest of his clan, he chooses not to pursue their traditional path of slaying dragons after encountering one. Instead, he develops an unusual bond with this dragon, whom he names Toothless, opting for friendship rather than conflict.
The upcoming live-action adaptation, based on Cressida Cowell’s 2003 book with the same title, is set to retain the original storyline, and Gerard Butler reprises his role as Hiccup’s father, Stoick the Vast.
Additionally, these movies are helmed by the same filmmaker, Dean DeBlois, who finds it hard to comprehend the criticism surrounding the production of a live-action adaptation.
He mentioned that he finds it intriguing since he has consistently chosen not to follow the trend of remaking those movies.
I have a strong affection for animation, particularly films produced by renowned studios. However, I don’t support re-creating movies in a different format without a clear reason or purpose behind it.
However, when Universal discussed turning this project into a live-action film, it sparked a memory in me about our initial goal for the first movie, which was deeply important to Chris Sanders and myself – embracing a live-action style.
The live-action adaptation of How To Train Your Dragon hits theaters on June 9th, while you can currently stream the original animated version on ITVX.
