Want to trade Pokémon in the Legends game? This quick guide explains how to trade in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
I remember when Pokémon first came out – it was a total game changer! And one of the coolest things right from the start was trading Pokémon with your friends. It’s been a core part of the experience forever. Now, with Pokémon Legends: Z-A, they’ve added a brand new way to do it, which is awesome!
Here is a guide on how to trade Pokémon with friends in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
Trading in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
The way Pokémon players trade has changed a lot over the years. Originally, you needed special cables to connect two Game Boys. Later, Nintendo created a Wireless Adapter for the Game Boy SP, allowing players to trade wirelessly.
The main drawback of the Wireless Adapter was that it needed one for each user. With the wired connection, only one person needed it.

Games eventually gained wireless capabilities, connecting through nearby signals or Wi-Fi. This started with the release of the Nintendo DS and the fourth generation of Pokémon games, Diamond and Pearl.
Now, Pokémon’s trading system is incredibly easy to navigate.
How to trade in the new game
Trading in Pokémon Legends: Z-A is straightforward. First, you’ll need to unlock the Link Play feature by progressing through the beginning of the game and completing some research from Mable. Once unlocked, you can trade Pokémon with friends, no matter where they are!
To play with a friend, first open Link Play on your Switch by pressing X. Then, each of you share the code the game provides. After entering your friend’s code, you’ll be able to trade items – it’s that easy!
Can the Switch trade with the Switch 2
Great news! Players with the original Nintendo Switch will be able to trade Pokémon with those playing Pokémon Legends: Z-A on the new Switch 2 console.

Trading Pokémon can be really helpful for completing your Pokédex, especially if you don’t want to spend hours searching for every single one. Plus, some Pokémon actually need to be traded to evolve, so that’s another good reason to trade!
