How to make The Acolyte a movie trilogy instead of a TV series
I, a passionate Star Wars fan and long-time devotee of the galaxy far, far away, have been captivated by the intriguing world of “The Acolyte” that Leslye Headland has crafted. While eagerly anticipating new episodes of “The Rings of Power,” I found myself drawn into the rich tapestry of “The Acolyte,” a series that challenged me and reignited my love for the Star Wars universe.
I’d be happy to help you explore different views on “The Acolyte” as a new Star Wars television show. This series not only served as an engaging distraction for this self-proclaimed Tolkien enthusiast, eagerly anticipating the next installment of “The Rings of Power.” The intrigue and suspense surrounding “The Acolyte,” particularly the enigma of The Stranger, or Qimir, rekindled old friendships and sparked new debates. I was reminded of my past passion for Marvel characters and their movies, which fueled my appreciation for their indomitable stories.
After penning down twenty engaging articles about a beloved TV show and relishing the process, I began pondering over the possibility of this series translating into a captivating movie experience. Surprisingly, my ideas extended beyond just a single film; instead, I envisioned a trilogy of prequels that could bring even more depth to the story. Here’s what I believe would make these prequels an enriching journey for me.
8 episodes become three films
I’ve frequently expressed that storytelling has the power to illustrate the concept of loss and restoration of the sacred. In the context of a film adaptation of “The Acolyte, ” this theme could be effectively conveyed through the narrative. The audience is initially introduced to what each major character holds sacred. Subsequently, we witness the violation or disappearance of that revered notion or object. Ultimately, we observe the price that must be paid for its recovery. Numerous tales in literature, film, and television follow this pattern. Anakin Skywalker’s descent and eventual redemption in “Star Wars” serve as a compelling illustration.
In this trilogy, the desire of the Force is deeply respected by all its wielders, including Qimir, who yearns for the autonomy to follow it. The four Jedi who erred at Brendok acted based on their individual understandings of the Force’s will. The coven functions according to their often ambiguous perspectives on The Thread, which holds equal significance to them as the Force does for Master Sol.
Mae and Osha remain the central figures in the story. The turning point comes when they are forced apart. One significant moment will be their heartfelt reunion. Throughout the narrative, Mae’s development focuses on her progression towards the light, while Osha is drawn into the shadows.
I strongly prefer keeping the deaths of the four Brendok Jedi in the story. Their transgressions and consequences are intriguing and add depth to the narrative. Much like in the graphic novel “V for Vendetta,” their involvement in the tragedy becomes clearer only upon their conviction and punishment.
In simpler terms, this project won’t resemble the lighthearted atmosphere of Star Wars with cheerful tunes and smiling characters. Instead, it will deviate from the funeral scenes, construction of the Death Star, and the splitting of the Skywalker twins. The series’ narrative of peace for some and sorrow for others, and the irreversible loss of the sacred, will remain consistent.
Where do we go from here?
One of my early novel editing experiences taught me that each chapter in a story should move the plot closer to the predetermined ending. I believe that, despite the criticism aimed at Leslye Headland’s project, “The Acolyte,” generally adhered to this concept. To strengthen the narrative further, consider these suggestions for a more unified storyline:
The transformation of Qimir from a submissive vendor into a shrewd manipulator is a crucial element in this spiritual voyage. A clearer introduction of his past relationship with Darth Plagueis would add depth to his character and explain why he can teach Osha about anger and sense of injustice. Additionally, around the midpoint of the trilogy, Master Vernestra Rwoh could reveal that one of her students has gone rogue. This revelation would impact her role in rescuing Mae and Osha.
Maintain the involvement of the outer circle Jedi as well. The accounts of how the Jedi deal with the remorse of their past actions add valuable insights. Yord Fandar and Jecki Lon, representing the next generation, are significant reflections of those bearing the Brendok secret within the Order. Let us not forget to include them in our journey forward.
As someone who has worked closely with Senator Rayencroft on various legislative matters, I strongly believe that introducing him earlier in the proceedings regarding the Jedi order would be beneficial for all parties involved. I have witnessed firsthand his ability to bring clarity and logic to complex issues, and I am confident that his insights on this matter will be invaluable.
Leslye explained that the show delves into how the choices made during this time period contributed to the fall of the Jedi Order depicted in the prequel trilogy. It doesn’t need to follow an exact sequence like the events in “Star Wars: Episodes I-III,” where we discover why Leia went to Alderaan, how Obi-Wan obtained Luke’s lightsaber, or even that Jar Jar Binks played a role in Palpatine gaining more powers. If executed effectively, this approach can provide insights into the sacrifices and adjustments that led to a stronger, but ultimately flawed Jedi Order.
In conclusion, after considering all these factors, we must bring up this matter with the High Council as it seems unlikely that the Sith, who were supposedly extinct a thousand years ago according to Ki-Adi-Mundi, are responsible for this.
Although I don’t have the power or financial resources to turn this into a major production, I will continue to gain insights from the experience that Headland provided for us all.
