Ty Dolla Sign‘s ideal Sunday starts while he’s flying back to Los Angeles, wherever work has taken him. He’s always on the go – we even had to pause our conversation a few times because he was preparing for a flight to Las Vegas for a performance that same night.
His phone signal was weak, but he said he’d be at the airport in about seventeen minutes and asked if he should call again later.
Ty Dolla Sign, whose real name is Tyrone Griffin Jr., is a singer known for his distinctive, slightly rough voice and catchy melodies. He released his fourth album, “Tycoon,” last fall, featuring collaborations with artists like YG, ASAP Rocky, Chlöe, and Lil Wayne. He started 2026 by releasing a remixed version of the album on the streaming service Hotcue.fm.
The awards are still rolling in! Ty Dolla Sign has been nominated for a Grammy for the seventh time, this time for Best Melodic Rap Performance thanks to his song with JID. His record label, EZMNY (co-founded with Shawn Barron in 2021), is also having a great year, earning a total of 10 nominations through its artists – six for Leon Thomas and four for Bizzy Crook.
Music
The singer looks back on his career, from his beginnings as a young performer to becoming a leading figure in R&B, and discusses the impact of his album ‘Mutt.’ He also emphasizes why having real musicians playing live is still important, even with the rise of artificial intelligence.
The artist, originally from Los Angeles, praised his team, calling them the best. He said they’re focused on continuing to excel, pushing the boundaries of music, and maintaining a high level of quality.
The Grammy Awards are happening on Sunday in 2026, which also happens to be his daughter’s 21st birthday, so she’ll be there to celebrate with him. He’s also scheduled to perform before the awards show begins.
Ty Dolla Sign recently described his ideal Sunday in Los Angeles: starting with a smoothie from his go-to spot, then spending the day making music at home, and finishing with a relaxed Italian meal.
This interview has been lightly edited and condensed for length and clarity.
5 a.m.: Wake up on a plane
My ideal Sunday would begin with an early morning arrival in Los Angeles. Being up and at ’em already means I can get my work calls done first thing, which is really helpful.
11 a.m.: Hit the weights with my PT
After finishing up, I’d head straight home, and my trainer would arrive around 11 a.m. or noon. We’d then work out together in my home gym. I’ve been training with him for a long time – even before I worked with Ty Dolla Sign. We’ve been at it, on and off, for about 15 to 20 years. I enjoy being in shape, and having a six-pack is nice, but I also really love good food. If someone wants to be with me, they need to understand that I’m dedicated to working out, but I also have periods where I just want to indulge and might gain a little weight. It’s simple: either you accept me for who I am, or you don’t. [laughs]
Food
16 of our favorite green juices and smoothies (that actually taste good) in L.A.
These juice bars and smoothie shops show that healthy drinks don’t have to taste bad – you can enjoy a delicious treat while still getting your greens!
2 p.m.: Grab a healthy smoothie from Body Energy Club
After that, I’d take a shower and then catch up on any remaining calls or emails. Then I’d head to a place called Body Energy Club, which has amazing smoothies and acai bowls made with really natural ingredients. I especially love the Green Goodness – it’s got avocado, spinach, banana, and other sweet ingredients, so it’s surprisingly tasty and super healthy. The Blueberry Crumble is another favorite; it tastes like blueberry French Toast Crunch! It’s delicious and good for you. Finally, I like the Turmeric Mango when I need something to help me recover after being a bit crazy. [laughs]
3 p.m.: Hit up the studio
Then, I’d usually go home and work on music. I might put on a football game in the background while I’m at it.
10 p.m.: A low-key Italian dinner
After a long day at the studio, dinner really depended on what time I finished up. Sometimes I’d just order takeout, but often I’d head out to one of my favorite spots. If I was craving Italian, Giorgio Baldi in the Palisades was always a good choice. If it was getting late, I’d usually go to Nice Guy – they have great Italian too. Honestly, I only go to places where I can get a private room and where they treat me like a regular customer, not like they’re trying to overcharge me just because I’m in the music industry.
I love the corn ravioli at Giorgio Baldi – it’s their signature dish. I usually order a variety of things there, just taking a few bites of each, which is how I prefer to eat. I like to do the same thing when I go to any restaurant – order steak, fish, chicken, and vegetables, just like I make at home. I don’t need to finish everything, but it’s more fun when I’m with a group and we can share. Even when I’m watching my weight, I still like to sample a little of everything. If I wasn’t dieting, though, a burger would be my go-to. At Nice Guy, they have great chicken Parmesan, but I’m a little different – I like to eat it without the Parmesan cheese. I actually found out YG feels the same way, so we’re both ‘no cheese’ people! It’s funny to find someone who shares that preference. After that, I’m usually ready to call it a night.
