How to have the best Sunday in L.A., according to Jordan Firstman
Considering a comedy-music album derived from confessions of internet users might not initially appear to be a logical move for Jordan Firstman, who is renowned for his roles in FX’s “English Teacher” and Rachel Sennott’s HBO series that’s being hailed as the breakout show of the season.
However, unlike a typical Hollywood career, there’s an unconventional vibe to Firstman’s professional journey, which adds intrigue to his persona – not just that, but also his wit and humor.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the multitalented individual gained widespread recognition online as he began impersonating diverse subjects on social media, such as an unauthorized Apple charger, a man of average height, and even the publicist for banana bread (“They’ve been trying to get me to represent pumpkin pie lately. I told them to come back in four months”). Since that time, he has embarked upon a diverse array of projects, including starring in the dark comedy “Rotting in the Sun,” which debuted at Sundance in 2023.
This month, Firstman unveiled his first album titled “Secrets,” which originated during the pandemic as he encouraged followers on Instagram Stories to share their secrets with him. He then anonymously broadcasted some of these confessions as songs, many of which have risqué titles unsuitable for publication. Speaking about the genre-blending record, Firstman expressed, “The most satisfying aspect is turning life into art. I believe this approach offers the most straightforward means to do so.
Every Sunday, Firstman seeks out positivity and laughter, filling his days with joyful activities. His ideal Los Angeles day might involve a boat party, a refreshing dip in an icy pool, and indulging in the city’s best spicy shrimp.

Midnight: Sunday officially begins
Are we treating midnight as the beginning of the day? If it’s midnight, there are still a few hours left to start the day, so we might be at a party or perhaps enjoying ourselves at [Marmont Chateau] until around 2 or 3 AM. I believe 3 is an ideal time to leave because it doesn’t seem uncool to head home then, as people in L.A. usually do go home at 2. However, you can still sleep till around 10 and have a good night. Some of my friends take it a step further and party until 5 or 6 AM. Not my style anymore. I’m getting too old for that.

10:30 a.m.: Morning bagels
Straight away, we’re heading to “Courage Bagels.” It’s one of my coolest L.A. brags that I can skip the line there because they appreciate me. I try not to do it more than twice a year to keep the perk. I’m even a bit shy mentioning it, fearful they might revoke it. Yet, I believe we have a good rapport over DMs. If my dream came true, someone would fetch the bagels for me and deliver them right to my bed. Unfortunately, I don’t have such a person at the moment. So, we’ll go to Courage, bypass the queue, order a Burnt Everything with salted butter instead.
Next, I’ll swing by Sqirl for some beverages. Their mocha is quite tasty, and I highly recommend their lavender lemonade as well.

11 a.m.: A strategic workout
Instead of heading to the Rodeo Athletic Club, my gym in Silver Lake, I’ll be making a trip there today. It seems the secret recipe for shedding pounds revolves around – let me just check my phone – the 12-3-30 method. This involves setting the treadmill at a 12% incline and 3% speed for a duration of 30 minutes. As an added bonus, I watch an episode from either “Sex and the City,” “Girls,” or “Entourage” during this time, which takes up another 30 minutes. The minutes pass swiftly because I’m not running, just walking. However, I still break a sweat and feel like I’ve had a workout. And apparently, this method is superior to running. After all, that’s what TikTok suggests, and I trust everything TikTok tells me.
For the next few minutes, I’ll immerse myself in the cold bath. Over the past six months, I’ve developed a real fondness for this practice. Once, I even stayed in for eight minutes. It has a remarkable effect on my emotional well-being. It’s almost impossible to stay in a bad mood after doing it.

12:30 p.m.: Party on a boat
My good friend John Sharp owns a boat docked at Marina del Rey. On occasion, I’d join a group of lively Venice boys there for the day, creating a pleasant and harmonious atmosphere. We often enjoy some psychedelic mushrooms and organic wine. Typically, someone will bring delicious treats from Gjelina. Later in the evening, friends invite us over to their place, where they order food and ask everyone to Venmo them before the meal arrives. Sometimes, I find myself calculating and thinking, “Hold on, I don’t think you guys are covering the costs,” but we appreciate their hospitality, so it’s all good. It’s just that often, the cost of the food delivery ends up being shared among us. That’s the way it usually goes, but we cherish these friends for it.

3:30 p.m.: Get scrubbed
On my journey home, I’d plan to drop by Century Day & Night Spa. If today turns out to be an exceptional day, I might opt for a body exfoliation treatment. Occasionally, after working out at the gym, I neglect to wash properly. Sweat accumulation on my back can be quite uncomfortable, so a good scrub is essential. And they have skilled Korean men who perform this service.

6 p.m.: Assemble the ideal bite of Sichuan food
We’re heading over to San Gabriel Valley today. My top choice for Sunday dining is Chengdu Taste, and I plan on indulging quite a bit. I hope I can convince some friends to join. Most of my friends, you see, have issues with eating or are very conscious about their diets, making it challenging to enjoy rich foods together.
As a food enthusiast, let me share my upcoming culinary adventure: I’ll be indulging in the flavored shrimp, the crispy chicken with the tantalizing chile peppers, the silky eggplant, the rich tomato and egg soup, the heavenly Chengdu fried rice, and the vibrant green beans. The symphony of tastes begins with the delightful Chengdu fried rice – it’s simply divine and the best fried rice I’ve ever tasted in my gastronomic journey. Pairing it with a spoonful of the tender eggplant, which melts in your mouth like a dream, and followed by a succulent shrimp is an unforgettable experience. Oh, the anticipation is building! It’s going to be an explosion of flavors that will leave you craving for more, and it’s absolutely exquisite.

8 p.m.: Some quick fun
If my perfect Sunday unfolds this way, a friend-with-benefits or casual acquaintance might visit, and we’d engage in an intimate moment. This encounter would likely last from 8 to around 8:25 at the latest. To be honest, it might even be closer to 8. Once he departs, I would then enjoy watching “The White Lotus.
10 p.m.: Wind down with a skincare routine
Afterward, I’ll take care of my skin. Refill my latest peptide supplements, ensure those syringes are filled. A nice facial mask would be perfect, just to appear refreshed tomorrow. In bed by 11. (This version maintains the original meaning while making it more conversational and easier to read.)
