How to get Ruth Wilson’s His Dark Materials audiobooks
As a hardcore fan of both literature and gripping storytelling, I can hardly contain my excitement about Ruth Wilson’s upcoming role in the world of “His Dark Materials.” Having grown up with Philip Pullman’s enchanting novels, I was captivated by their intricately woven themes and complex characters.
Ruth Wilson has confirmed an exciting return to the world of His Dark Materials.
Previously on TV, the actress who played Luther and The Woman in the Wall has appeared in every episode of His Dark Materials’ three seasons, portraying the mysterious Marisa Coulter, earning herself a BAFTA Cymru Award for her performance.
After finishing work on the TV version of Philip Pullman’s fantasy books, Ruth is looking forward to collaborating with the author once more. This time, they’ll be listening to the audiobooks of three novels in the collection, published by Penguin.
Wilson will share the stories of “Northern Lights” (available September 5 on Apple Books), then continue with “The Subtle Knife” and “The Amber Spyglass” – the final two installments set for publication next year.
In this latest edition of “The Amber Spyglass,” you’ll find an exclusive extra: a captivating conversation between Philip Pullman and Ruth Wilson, recorded live at the Bodleian Library in 2021.
“I was captivated by Philip Pullman’s intricate universe of ‘His Dark Materials’ when I initially read the books. Acting as Mrs. Coulter in the adaptation gave me the opportunity to delve deeper into its rich themes beyond her portrayal as a villain, including narcissism, freedom, motherhood, and imagination.”
It was a privilege and joy for me to tell the stories of this audiobook series and explore even deeper into Philip’s complex universe.
As a voracious reader and an ardent fan of Philip Pullman’s “His Dark Materials” series, I can hardly contain my excitement when I heard that Ruth Wilson would be narrating the new audio edition. Having been captivated by her mesmerizing performance in the television adaptation, I was already impressed. But during a chance encounter with her at a literary festival, I had the opportunity to delve deeper into her artistic process.
I’ve had the privilege of working with some remarkable voices over the years, but none have left as lasting an impression as hers. Her voice is naturally resonant and alluring, able to breathe life into even the most mundane of stories. With just the slightest intonation or emphasis, she could transform a simple narrative into a captivating experience that felt as vividly alive in my ears as I had imagined it would be in my mind’s eye.
The three novels penned by Pullman, namely “His Dark Materials,” follow the thrilling journeys of two remarkable kids, Lyra Belacqua and Will Parry. They encounter various alternate realities and come face-to-face with mystical beings.
The three-season BBC One broadcast of the TV version earned it four British Academy Television Craft Awards and three Royal Television Society Craft & Design Awards.
