How To Defeat Wind Serpent Ibushi And Thunder Serpent Narwa In Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection

In Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, you’ll quickly build a powerful team of Monsties, making many battles easy to win. However, the Calamitous Elder Dragons present a real challenge.

As a huge Monster Hunter fan, I can tell you Ibushi and Narwa are brutal. They’re easily the toughest fight in the whole game. Facing one Elder Dragon is hard enough, but these two together? Forget about it! It’s a real test of skill, and honestly, nothing else comes close to the challenge they present.

The Best Monsties To Use Against Ibushi And Narwa

Since you’re facing two powerful Elder Dragons, it’s best to have at least two strong Monsties that you can switch between during the battle. Both dragons are slightly weak to Dragon-element attacks, but Ibushi is especially vulnerable to Fire, and Narwa to Ice. Keep in mind, each dragon also has some resistance to the element the other is weak to.

If you’re looking for a strong Monstie, a Dragon type is a great option. Malzeno is particularly useful because it can both heal and attack. However, it’s very vulnerable to Dragon attacks, so Ibushi can be a tough opponent. Stygian Zinogre is just the opposite – it resists Dragon attacks well, but struggles against the Thunder attacks from Narwa.

Ratha is a great choice for fighting Ibushi because of its ability to exploit the monster’s fire weakness, though Ibushi’s resistance to dragon damage can be a problem. Hellblade Glavenus also works well thanks to its resistances, but it’s a bit fragile and slow, so staying alive can be tricky.

When fighting Narwa, weapons with Ice damage, like the Goss Harag, are very effective, particularly because Narwa has high defense. Velkhana, while less resistant overall, can inflict significantly more damage, and their speed will help them dodge attacks.

It’s often difficult to find a single Monstie strong enough to effectively manage two elements, so having a variety of monsters to switch between is important. Skills that boost your team, particularly Defense and Dodge, are key, as are abilities that lower your opponent’s stats – like E. Dominance, which reduces their Attack and Defense.

The Best Equipment To Use Against Ibushi And Narwa

Because you can’t quickly change your equipment during a hunt, it’s best to choose a versatile set. We recommend the Goss Harag armor – it’s easy to build, offers strong defenses, has plenty of slots for Decorations, and provides generally good resistance to various elements. Be sure to upgrade it to level three to unlock all three Decoration slots.

To really crank up the damage, I loaded up on decorations! I used the Dragon Def Boost (XL) and Thunder Def Boost (XL) for extra protection, and then added the Elemental Assault (XL) decoration to make my elemental attacks hit even harder.

We equipped weapons effective against each monster’s weaknesses, ensuring we always had at least two options. Specifically, we used the Fire Bow, Ashen Wrath, the Dragon Hunting Horn, Duke’s Grail, and the Ice Long Sword, Icebrink. This provided broad coverage against different enemy types. Decoration choices are flexible, but we recommend adding the Accuracy Down Coating to the Bow for increased evasion, as it’s very helpful.

The Best Companion To Use Against Ibushi And Narwa

Okay, so when picking a companion for this hunt, I’ve found Thea and Eleanor are usually the best choices – they really pack a punch. Kora and Gael can work too, but they’re not quite as strong. Honestly, a lot of Ibushi and Narwa’s attacks hit everyone, so Kora’s ability to focus attacks doesn’t always make a huge difference. It’s just something to keep in mind when I’m setting up my team.

When preparing for the battle with Thea, prioritize equipping her with the Hunting Horn. While it won’t deal much damage to the enemies directly, it will provide helpful buffs to the entire team. Also, be sure to include Gnocchi in your party, as their attacks using both Ice and Dragon elements will be super effective against both Elder Dragons.

When playing as Eleanor, equip her Great Sword – it’s super effective against Ibushi and does a lot of damage. Also, bring her Glavenus; their increased speed and dodging ability are a big advantage over Angie’s.

How To Beat Ibushi And Narwa

During the fight, Ibushi and Narwa work together using a special connection called the Mind Connection. One of them gains a powerful boost called a Mantle, while the other focuses on supporting them. This support includes things like removing enemy buffs, applying helpful buffs to themselves, and even a little bit of healing. However, they can still attack, so keep an eye on both of them!

The Mind Connection also alters how the Wyvernsoul Gauge works. If you deplete the gauge on one Wyvernsoul, it depletes it on both. This means staggering one will stagger them both. However, because there are two Wyvernsouls, you won’t be able to perform Synchro Rushes during the fight.

Okay, so I’ve learned that when fighting, you really want to concentrate most of your attacks on the enemy that’s glowing or looks powered up. That’s because they have more areas you can actually damage, and hitting those spots fills up the Wyvernsoul Gauge way faster. It makes everything easier, honestly!

Both Elder Dragons switch up their attacks often, so here’s a handy list of everything they can do.

  • Ibushi – Dragon

    • Wind Mantle – Power
    • Mind Connection – Speed
    • Exposed – Power
  • Narwa – Thunder

    • Thunder Mantle – Technical
    • Mind Connection – Speed
    • Exposed – Technical

During the battle, avoid starting a round with low health if both Elder Dragons are preparing attacks that don’t target a specific player. These attacks can quickly defeat your entire team. Don’t hesitate to use Kinship Skills to interrupt their strongest moves – it’s better to extend the fight and survive than to risk being eliminated early.

The most challenging part of the battle starts when you get both of their health below 50%. Once that happens, they’ll become stronger, learn new attacks, and continue to support each other. It’s a really tough situation! But, this phase also makes it easier to fill up the Wyvernsoul Gauge for yourself.

If you reduce both Ibushi and Narwa’s health below 50%, they’ll become stronger during the next round of the fight.

By now, you’ll know all of your opponent’s moves, so just stay guarded and slowly reduce their health. Prioritize attacks that build up Wyvernfell instead of just focusing on damage – this will quickly expose them, causing them to attack with their Head-to-head move more often.

Once you defeat enemies, your allies will gain the Follower’s Testament Skill, or improve it if they’ve already defeated an Elder Dragon. If you defeat these enemies without ever forcing them to retreat, you’ll also receive an enhanced version of the skill yourself.
